The affectionate girl eventually returns with her savings to buy Corduroy. COMMENTS This film version is based on Don Freeman's book, but the dialogue is different and the story has some variations. GOALS 1. To emphasize that everyone needs to be loved and accepted the way they are. 2. To promote sequential thinking. 3. Who else needs love and acceptance? 4. Discuss how Corduroy feels and why he feels that way in these situations: a. Lisa's mother said she couldn't buy Corduroy. b. The security guard was looking for Corduroy. c. Lisa bought Corduroy and brought him home. 5. Ask children to point to or put a button on the picture when they hear the given sound. (See INSTRUCTIONAL GRAPHICS.) 6. List and discuss these four sounds: a. Whistle. b. Hiss. c. Crash. d. Crayons falling. 7. Ask the students to think of other words that indicate sound, and list these on the chalkboard. These sounds may include the following: a. Thump. b. Bang. c. Boom. d. Howl. e. Emphasize that the word tends to sound like the event or effect. 10.Use the sounds in this media to demonstrate how sounds alert us. a. State the sound. Ask what happened in the media. (1) Train whistle--corduroy turns to see the train coming. (2) Raft hisses--security Guard hunts for the source of the sound. (3) Lamp crashes--security Guard hunts for the source of the sound. (4) Crayons fall--lisa turns to discover Corduroy. b. Have the students think of other incidents in the media where a sound caused a reaction.
