4 1 Getting started 1.1 About this manual This is an introduction to the general features, functionalities and customization options of AudioConsole. For device-specific features, please refer to the user manual of the device you are using. It is recommended that you read this manual thoroughly to familiarize yourself with AudioConsole. To obtain a free printed copy of the user documentation, contact Otometrics ( 1.2 Inmedico test devices AudioConsole is designed to operate with test devices produced by Inmedico. Note Some devices described in the manuals may not be available in your country. 2 Intended use Users A wide range of health care professionals such as audiologists, hearing instrument dispensers, ENTs and speech therapists. See also the documentation relating to the individual test modules and devices. Use Integration of individual AudioConsole test modules. 3 Installation 3.1 System requirements Minimum system requirements Processor: 2 GHz RAM: 2 GB Free space: 150 MB Display resolution: 1024 x 600 (1440 x 900 recommended for optimal performance) Available USB port for the device Available USB port for the operator headset, if applicable. 4

5 Supported operating systems Microsoft Windows 7 Microsoft Windows Installing AudioConsole Start the AudioConsole setup wizard by double-clicking the file setup.exe. The setup wizard guides you through the installation. 4 Using AudioConsole 4.1 Operator profiles When AudioConsole is launched for the first time, you will be prompted to select an operator profile. By selecting an operator profile, the name and operator details will appear on print reports and in connection with measurement data. When you have selected your operator profile, click Ok (Ok) to proceed. When launched for the first time, the default selection will be set to No operator (No operator). You can select an existing operator profile in the dropdown menu. If you check the Set as default and do not ask me again (Set as default and do not ask me again) box you will not be prompted to choose an operator next time you launch AudioConsole. 4.2 Create new operator Click the button to create a new or edit an existing operator. 5

6 Enter operator details. Add an image file containing the operator s signature. The signature will automatically be added to print reports. Double-click the blank Signature (Signature)-area, or click the Browse (Browse) button, to select and import an image file. AudioConsole will automatically re-scale the image if necessary. To edit, set as default, or delete, select operator via the drop-down menu. If you are editing an existing operator profile, click Apply (Apply) to save your changes. Click Close (Close) to close the window. Caution Changes will not be saved if you close this window without clicking Apply (Apply) or Create (Create). 4.3 Patient database Overview When you have selected a specific operator or No operator (No operator), the Patient Database (Patient Database) window will open. Here you can access patient data stored in the AudioConsole database. In the patient database, you can create, edit and delete patients. You can also configure the patient database and import/- export patient data. By typing in the yellow text fields, you can search the patient database. Use * as a wildcard when searching. Clicking will reset the filters and display all patients again Working with patient data To create a new patient, click the button to open the Create Patient (Create Patient) window. 6

7 Enter information about the patient. Highlighted fields are mandatory. AudioConsole will automatically assign a unique patient ID. By unchecking the Auto generate ID (Auto generate ID) box, you can also type in an ID number manually i.e. a social security number. Click Ok (Ok) to save the patient data and close the window. Clicking the Cancel (Cancel) button will close the window without saving any data. Clicking the Clicking the button to open the Edit Patient (Edit Patient) window. Here you can edit an existing patient. button will delete the patient currently selected in the Patient Database (Patient Database) window. All saved measurements will also be deleted by clicking this button. AudioConsole will prompt you to confirm whether you are sure that you want to proceed before a patient and all stored measurements are deleted. It is not possible to recover patient data or measurements once a patient has been deleted Database setup Click the button to open the Enable/Disable Fields in Database (Enable/Disable Fields in Database) window. 7

8 Select or deselect which of the patient s personal information you wish to store together with the patient s tests Add custom information on the patient in the Custom Information (Custom Information) fields. Select whether AudioConsole should display the patient s most recent audiogram or tympanogram. By default, the most recent test will be displayed Enable or disable advanced search filters for the patient database. Advanced search filters facilitate advanced filtering of patients via their birthdates: Database synchronization Click the button to open the Synchronize databases (Synchronize databases) window. This window allows you to synchronize data between two different AudioConsole databases. By default, Database 1 (Database 1) will be selected for AudioConsole. When you have chosen which databases to synchronize, the button will become active. Click this button to start. When completed, both databases will now contain the same data. Note This feature does not work with databases from AudioConsole 2.x.x installations. 8

9 4.3.5 Data import/export Click the button to open the Import/Export data (Import/Export data) window. You can import and export patient and measurement data in a variety of file formats: Import: CSV Import:AudioConsole 2.x.x databases Import and export: XML3 XML3 is an XML-based AudioConsole interface. For further information, see Oscilla Noah module 24. It is possible to export data for the patient currently selected in the Patient Database (Patient Database) window or for a selection of patients stored in the database. Select the path for import or export and click the import/export button to begin. Status shows the progress of the transfer. Click Close (Close) to close the window. Note AudioConsole supports import of CSV files from Amplivox AuditBase 5.2 (patient and measurement data), as well as custom Oscilla CSV files (patient data only). To open a template for the Oscilla CSV file, click the Template (Template) button. 4.4 Viewing measurements Overview In the Patient Database (Patient Database) window, click the selected patient. This will open the main window of AudioConsole. button to view the measurement data stored for the On the left side of the screen you will see a list of all measurements stored for the selected patient. The selected measurement is displayed on the right side of the screen. 9

11 4.4.2 Toolbar buttons Patient Database (Patient Database) Return to the patient database window to select another patient. Print (Print) Print the current measurement using the selected report template. Refer to the section Print report (Print report) 19 for further information on using report templates. Print Preview (Print Preview) Preview your printout. The preview window allows you to save reports in different file formats, e.g. PDF, Word, and Excel. Refer to the section Print report (Print report) 19 for further information on using report templates. PDF export (PDF export) Shortcut for PDF export. Refer to the section Print report (Print report) 19 for further information on using report templates.. Combi report (Combi report) Print or export a report containing an audiogram and a tympanogram on the same page. Refer to the section Combi report 13 for more information. Manage Audiograms (Manage Audiograms) Opens a window with an overview of all audiograms stored in the database. Compare and analyse audiograms. Refer to the section Manage audiograms 17 for more information. Settings (Settings) Configure AudioConsole. Refer to the section Settings 18 for more information Layout buttons The buttons on the upper right toolbar changes the visual appearance of the audiogram. They are only accessible when viewing an audiogram: Curve type selector (Curve type selector) Select the curve types to show in audiograms. Tomatis curve (Tomatis curve) Show or hide the Tomatis reference curve. ANSI 69 colour graph (ANSI 69 colour graph) Show or hide the ANSI 69 color graph. Klockhoff overlay (Klockhoff overlay) Show or hide an overlay based on the audiogram classification by Klockhoff/Dretner/Svedberg. 11

12 Speech banana (Speech banana) Show or hide the speech banana. Age graph (Age graph) Show or hide the age graph. db hearing level limit line (db hearing level limit line) Show or hide the db hearing level limit line. Audiogram symbols (Audiogram symbols) Show audiogram symbol legend. Note Depending on national regulations additional and/or different audiogram layout buttons might be available. If you have questions, please contact your distributor. Swap Left Right (Swap Left Right) Swap left and right side of a measurement. Audiograms Tympanograms Dual/mono audiograms (Dual/mono audiograms) Change the appearance of audiograms. The audiogram can appear either individually for left and right side or as a combined audiogram. This button is available for both pure tone and speech audiograms. This feature changes the audiogram appearance on your reports. Dual/individual tables (Dual/individual tables) Change the appearance of the audiogram table. The table can appear either as one combined left/right-table or as two individual tables. This button is available for pure tone audiograms only. Select/deselect details to be displayed (Select/deselect details to be displayed) Select or deselect details to be displayed in the table for pure tone audiograms. Normal/extended tympanograms (Normal/extended tympanograms) Switch between normal or extended (stretched) tympanogram views. This feature changes the tympanogram appearance on your reports The list of patient measurements The list of patient measurements shows all stored measurements for the selected patient. The measurements can be sorted by date and time (default) or by type of measurement. The types of measurement are: Pure tone audiogram 12

13 Speech audiogram (appears in combination with a pure tone audiogram) Tympanogram To open a context menu, right click a measurement. Set as shadow (Set as shadow) The measurement appears as a transparent overlay when viewing other measurements of the same type. This allows you to easily compare different measurements. Shadow measurements will appear as a gray background in the measurement list. It is not possible to set a speech audiogram as shadow. Click Remove as shadow (Remove as shadow) to remove the shadow. Delete (Delete) Delete the selected measurement from the database. Deleted measurements cannot be recovered. Resume test (Resume test) Click to resume an audiogram created within the last 24 hours. This option will not be listed for audiograms that have been in the database for more than 24 hours. Print Preview (Print Preview) Preview a printout of the measurement using the report template. Refer to the section Print report (Print report) 19 for further information on using report templates. Print (Print) Print the measurement using the report template. Refer to the section Print report (Print report) 19 for further information on using report templates. Export To PDF File (Export To PDF File) Export a PDF of the measurement using the report template. Refer to the section Print report (Print report) 19 for further information on using report templates. Export to XML3 File (Export to XML3 File) Export a XML file of the measurement in the AudioConsole XML3 format Combi report Click the Combi report (Combi report) button to open the Combi report (Combi report) window. 13

14 This window contains separate lists of the patient s audiograms and tympanograms. Select a report template in the dropdown menu. Select a measurement from each list to generate a combined report. Fig. 3 Print preview of a combi report 4.5 Main window tabs Tables Click the Tables (Tables) tab to view measurement details. 14

15 To select which details you want to review, select or clear the check boxes Data Click the Data (Data) tab to: Add additional details to the selected measurement. If custom data fields are enabled, these will appear here as text fields. For further information, refer to section Database setup 7. To automatically append operator name and date and time to AudioConsole measurement notes select the Append operator, date and time to notes (Append operator, date and time to notes) box. Click Apply (Apply) button to save data with the measurement. The Test Method (Test Method) field is only available for audiograms Category Click the Category (Category) tab to display the following screen: 15

16 The categories available vary according to local regulations and standards. The Calculations (Calculations) category is always available. All calculations can be edited by clicking the Edit (Edit) button: Results of the individual calculations can be shown on the print report. To do so, select the Calculations (Calculations) template in the print report drop down menu or in the table beneath the on-screen audiogram. 16

17 Please contact your local distributor if you have any questions related to available categories Manage audiograms Click the button in the main window to open the Manage Audiograms (Manage Audiograms) window: The list contains all audiograms stored in the database. The toolbar features: Export individual reports of the audiograms Mark a selection of audiograms and click the button to compare audiograms. Refer to section Group audiograms 17 for further information Group audiograms Statistics The toolbar buttons: Print, preview or edit a group audiogram report. Click the button to edit the report template. In the audiogram overview: Select frequencies to include in the group audiogram. Click the Auto Select (Auto Select) button to filter out audiograms without data for one of more frequencies. 17

18 Additional Information Add information to all selected audiograms. Average Audiogram Display an average audiogram based on selected data. If enabled, calculation results will be shown here (See Category 15). 4.6 Settings To open the AudioConsole settings window, click the Settings (Settings) button in the main window toolbar. 18

19 The tabs in the window are described in the following sections General Print report (Print report) Select a report template in the dropdown menu. Click Edit (Edit) to customize the report template. To automatically hide the ID numbers of patients on print reports, check the Hide sensitive information (Hide sensitive information) button. Refer to the section The report editor 23 for more information. Test Settings (Test Settings) Swap Left and Right (Swap Left and Right) Show "Swap Left/Right" Button Show Shadow When Starting a New Test (Show Shadow When Starting a New Test) Collapse Left and Top Side on Test (Collapse Left and Top Side on Test) Toggle default left-right orientation of audiograms. Show the button for swapping left and right side. The currently selected measurement is set as shadow when starting a test. Hide the left and upper segments of the main window when starting a test. License (License) Enter license keys for Oscilla devices. Accepted keys will appear in the Active License(s) (Active License(s)) field. Language (Language) Change the language in AudioConsole. When AudioConsole is launched for the first time, the language will be the default system language. COM port (COM port) Enable and open a COM port to connect serial port devices to AudioConsole. 19

20 Two serial port devices can be connected at the same time. Database Location (Database Location) Change the database location Audiogram Layout Speech banana (Speech banana) Change speech banana layout. Colour/Width (Colour/Width) Change visual appearance of the audiogram grid. Masking level symbols (Masking level symbols) Show symbols to indicate masking noise level in the audiogram. Ear protection (Ear protection) Change the colors for insulation curve and inadequate insulation for ear protection tests. Default (Default) Reset layout settings to default Tympanogram Layout Color (Color) Change the colors of curves shown in a tympanogram. Reflex test thresholds (Reflex test thresholds) The reflex indicator is shown if a reflex is detected. Default (Default) Reset layout settings to default. 20

21 4.6.4 Speech Layout Normal curve (Normal curve) By default, two curves are shown in speech audiograms. One to denote multi syllabic and one to denote single syllabic word score. Disable curves or adjust scores and db hearing levels. Mark lines (Mark lines) Display up to three lines in the speech audiogram to mark certain db hearing levels. Configure the colors of the lines. Show HV scale (Show HV scale) Show HV scale in speech audiograms. Show 50% cut line (one point) (Show 50% cut line (one point)) Show a line between the first (or only) discrimination point in speech audiograms. Transparency of lines between points (Transparency of lines between points) Set the transparency level of lines drawn. Speech audiogram in SPL (Speech audiogram in SPL) Switch between SPL and HL speech audiograms. Default (Default) Reset layout settings to default Symbols Select audiogram symbols for all signal and curve types. 21

22 Symbols (Symbols) Select symbols via the dropdown menus. Custom letters (Custom letters) Add letters to the symbols in audiograms. Overview (Overview) Click the button for an overview of available symbols. Default (Default) Reset symbol settings to default Interfaces Interface with patient management systems for data export and import. Select Interface (Select Interface) Select interface to configure. Input Filename (Input Filename) Choose location for data import Remove Input File (Remove Input File) Remove input file after import. Output Filename (Output Filename) Choose location for data export. Generate PDF file (Generate PDF file) Automatically export PDF reports when a measurement is saved under the selected interface. Reports (Reports) Select PDF report template. Description (Description) Technical information on the selected interface. 22

23 4.6.7 Advanced settings Edit Language (Edit Language) Edit language files. Modules (Modules) Enter activation keys for extra modules. Active modules (Active modules) Overview of the activated modules. Tabs (Tabs) Show Tables (Tables), Category (Category) and Weber (Weber) tabs. Enter Command (Enter Command) Feature reserved for technical support. Show warning dialogue when operator closes AudioConsole (Show warning dialogue when operator closes AudioConsole) Enable a notification when closing AudioConsole. Tablet mode (Touch Screen) (Tablet mode (Touch Screen)) Screen optimization for touch screens. This will require restart. Generate PDF file (Generate PDF file) Automatically export PDF reports when a measurement is saved. Select PDF report template (Select PDF report template) Only available in stand-alone mode or under Noah. 4.7 The report editor Use the FastReport editor to: Edit templates Create report templates. 23

25 Click the Noah button to access the Oscilla Noah module. Noah operation is similar to normal AudioConsole operation, with the exception that a measurement must be deleted directly via the Noah database. Use XML3 to export data to AudioConsole. 5 Troubleshooting User manuals All device and software manuals are found in the Help (Help) menu in the AudioConsole main window. Remote Support (Remote Support) The Remote Support tool is located in the Help (Help) menu in the AudioConsole main window. Oscilla Technical support can connect to your computer. Provide the supporter with: Your ID Password. 25

26 6 Warning notes This guide contains information and warnings, which must be followed to ensure the safe use of AudioConsole. Local government rules and regulations, if applicable, should also be followed at all times. When AudioConsole is used in conjunction with a test device, make sure that all information and warnings in the manual for the test device are followed. Diagnostics are carried out by the operator and not by the software. 7 Definition of symbols Used in error message dialogs if software program fails.
