7 NEW DATA SHOWS: Oticon Opn makes a profound difference to users in noisy situations Outstanding results from two independent studies bring new evidence to prove the paradigm shift. The results indicate that Oticon Opn is a breakthrough towards solving the two biggest challenges in hearing care: speech understanding in noisy environments and multiple speaker interaction. Test #1 Improving speech understanding in noise while reducing listening effort This test demonstrates how OpenSound Navigator supports users across a wide range of typical everyday situations. Speech understanding and listening effort are tested against disturbing speech and noises. Listening effort is measured using the objective pupillometry technique. Test #2 Better interaction with multiple speakers This test compares OpenSound Navigator in Oticon Opn with traditional and narrow directionality. Usually, speech understanding is tested with a single speaker right in front of the listener. This test situation is artificial, as it does not represent real life conversations. To prove Oticon Opn s superior ability to handle multiple speakers, we mimicked a realistic conversation between four people in a noisy environment. It shows that the more noise, the lower the speech understanding. When above about 50% speech understanding, people will understand enough to participate in conversations, even if they need to make an extra effort to fill in the gaps. However, below 50%, the brain can no longer fill in the gaps, and speech loses its meaning because people are left with too little speech information to follow the conversation no matter how hard they try.
