3 Overview WV Interpreters/Deaf Educators Retreat The WV Interpreter Retreat will provide opportunity for participants to feel Revived, Reinforced and Renewed in your work. This retreat will encourage attendees to participate in hands-on workshops, interact with other interpreters, and gain additional knowledge that you can apply to your interpreting work. You will also have opportunity to meet our WV Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Executive Director and Projector Director. Join us, on Friday evening, as we discuss the WV Interpreter Registry and many other topics. We will have plenty of laughing with a special entertainment session on late Friday night. For Saturday, you will have an opportunity to attend 2 workshop sessions that will provide you with tools to enhance your job as an interpreter. All sessions will be in American Sign Language. No voice interpreter provided.

4 BIOGRAPHIES Earnest Covington is the Executive Director for the Commission. Earnest attended Gallaudet University before he transferred to Michigan State University to obtain a B.A. in History. He has a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Michigan and a Post -Masters Graduate Certification in Human Resources Management from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Prior to joining the Commission, Earnest was the Director for the Communication Access Center for the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, Michigan. He brings knowledge and skills in leadership, business processes and management. Vernon McNece - After being bitten by the magic bug at six years old, Vernon has been interested in doing magic tricks. He did tricks to impress his friends until he was encouraged to do a magic show when he was fifteen years old. He never stopped doing magic shows since that time and has performed for almost 20 years across much of the United States and has toured in Japan. After pursing his passion in science and food later in life, he received a few degrees including Culinary Arts, Pastry/Baking Specialization, Culinary Science, and Food in Business and Industry. He is currently full time student, working on his fifth degree, and studying for a Master s degree in Career and Technical Education. He also is a full time teacher at Missouri School for the Deaf, his alma mater, teaching Culinary Arts. Food and magic has always been his passion, and he consider himself a Magical Culinary Adventurer.

5 Biographies Bonnie Goben has many years of experience working in the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Interpreter communities by teaching as adjunct staff in Interpreter Training Program, mentoring, and advocating for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Currently Bonnie works as part of the Professional Development Team at Sorenson Communications and owns ASL Connections, LLC. Bonnie graduated from Kansas School for the Deaf, earned her degree in Psychology from Gallaudet University and earned her Master s degree in Deaf Studies/Deaf Education from Lamar University in She has been a RID Certified Deaf Interpreter since Kandice Allee started her interpreting career working in post -secondary education then branched out into a variety of community settings. After several years, she opened an interpreting agency with a couple of colleagues and interpreted everything under the sun. During this time, Kandice served on the KQAS Advisory Board for the Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and found a passion for evaluating interpreter skills. Kandice started her journey with Sorenson Communications in 2006 and currently works as a Professional Development Specialist. Kandice graduated from Johnson County Community College in 1993 earning her degree in American Sign Language Interpreting and holds a Missouri Master certification and license.
