1 The College of Education (COEd) of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) is recognized as Center of Excellence in Teacher Education Program and Center of Training Institution by the Commission on Higher Education and Department of Education, respectively. Its programs were also awarded Level IV Accreditation by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) through the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). As a leading institution in teacher education, it offers a broad educational program that encompasses the development of educators both in the elementary and secondary levels of education. It aims to promote an educational system that will serve as a dynamic resource of the Church and nation in the process of social transformation instrumental to progress. This summer 2018, the COEd offers its creative programs, Certificate in Teaching Early Childhood Learners (Level 1 - Basic Course and Level 2 - Advanced Course), short-term courses on specialized topics and concentrated coursework in teaching early childhood learners. The Basic Course aims to help the participants: 1. acquire solid and substantial knowledge on child growth and development by exploring the universal processes children go through as they grow and develop in their physical, social, emotional and cognitive aspects; 2. develop creative and innovative skills in facilitating the teaching and learning process by developing, selecting, organizing and applying appropriate objectives, subject matter, instructional materials/ technologies, methodologies/ strategies/ techniques and assessment activities especially in developing the listening, speaking, reading and writing experiences for early childhood learners; and 3. gain comprehensive understanding on the importance of preschool counseling and classroom management by identifying effective ways in managing behaviors of early childhood learners especially those with learning disabilities, behavioral problems and other exceptionalities
2 The Advanced Course aims to help the participants: 1. increase their understanding and knowledge of child growth and development and identify how such realization can be utilized to support the holistic and optimal development of each child; 2. be more adept on a wide range of developmentally-appropriate experiences in order for children to develop their sense of self-worth, creativity, physical abilities, social skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills among others; and 3. be aware of the significant components that make up an effective and meaningful early childhood teaching. Who May Enrol? Day Care workers who need updated and formal training in teaching early childhood learners. Teacher aides who want to have a well-rounded understanding of theeffective ways of handling young children. College undergraduates (of any course) who want to earn a certificate for future career opportunities. Parents who want to know the appropriate ways of guiding, teaching and dealing with their young children. Teachers & Professionals who want to obtain or enhance their qualifications. Other Interested Individuals who believe that learning does not stop, those who view that education is a lifelong process. Upon completion of this course, the participants will know how to greet people, ask questions, describe things, tell stories, name things, express feelings, and more in sign language. They shall learn hundreds of signs and know how to put them together to carry on meaningful conversations in sign language. Who May Enrol? This course is open to all individuals who wish to educate themselves in sign language. Specifically it will benefit the following: Special education students and teachers who are dealing with deaf and hard of hearing learners Hearing parents, guardians, or any parties with hard of hearing or deaf children and/or family members Beginner sign communicators who desire to widen their knowledge of sign language Job seekers interested to become a certified sign language interpreter People who want to know and understand the deaf community and its rich culture People with limited verbal skills who wants to develop their communication skills
