13 Message framing changes with age Older adults may relate to risk of hearing loss in later in life, youth are invincible and less likely to respond to potential health effects in the distant future. Youth respond to cues they have personally experienced, e.g. tinnitus after high-level music exposure. Effectiveness of Negative versus Positive message framing changes with age

15 Leverage those with influence The media is pervasive, know how to leverage the media and empower youth to challenge and understand the contradictory sources of information.

16 High School/Adolescents are a challenging audience Direct targeting of high school aged students for prevention of NIHL (especially related to music exposure, but all recreational exposures) appears to be almost completely ineffective UNLESS those students are meaningfully incorporated into the intervention process targeting peers or younger individuals. 32 Sustained outcomes require community-level interventions Community-based interventions produce sustained outcome improvements more than anything else we have tried (targeting year olds) and also have a positive impact on members of the community at large who may not have been primary targets of the interventions (adult community members who show evidence of increased awareness about hearing health).
