10 Florida Third Grade Oral Health Screening Project Based on the Basic Screening Survey (BSS) tool supported by the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) The BSS captured information on the following dental health indicators: Untreated Decay Treated Decay Caries Experience Dental Sealants Urgency of Need for Dental Care Dental screenings were provided to third-grade children in selected schools by the contracted Florida Dental Hygienists Association Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs) following the BSS protocols. 19 Dental Visits and Teeth Loss Among Florida s Adults 2016 The Florida Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is an ongoing surveillance survey Targets adults 18 years and older who reside in a Florida household In 2016, there were 36,955 respondents to the survey. The Florida Department of Health Public Health Dental Program (PHDP) monitors the three available oral health indicators: adults who visited a dentist or dental clinic within the past year adults who had a permanent tooth removed because of tooth decay or gum disease adults aged 65 years and older who had all their teeth removed
