3 Prevent Cavities Interproximal Caries The Progression Toward Cavities Dental caries start long before they can be detected. A cavity is only the terminal stage of a progressive mineral loss provoked in enamel by caries as a silent disease, dependent on the presence of biofilm and sugar exposure 1. 10 Fluoride Release Quantity and Its Interproximal Caries Inhibting Effect * * Cavity Inhibiting Capabilities Ingesting fluoride does not effectively reduce tooth decay; it must be applied topically.
