If you are having a single implant or just a couple then you can usually use them with soft foods straight away. If you are having a whole new smile then you can sometimes expect some mild swelling and mild discomfort. In this case we will ask you to have a soft food diet for a few weeks to allow the implants to heal fully. After that you can work up to harder foods. 14 What pieces make up Dental implants? Dental implants typically have three parts: 1. The implant: A medical grade titanium screw that serves as a root for your new teeth. This is what permanently attaches to your jaw. WE only use the best implants and the best surgical techniques. 2. The abutment: A permanent connector that attaches to the implant and supports the new implant tooth or teeth. Your dentist is able to remove this for maintenance or replacement. 3. The implant crown (or prosthetic tooth): This is the bit that you see above the gum and in most cases is made from high strength ceramic.
