1 Hypodontia Study day on Wednesday 4th March 2015 College Dental Institute, Caldecot Road, London SE5 9RW This course is aimed at all specialty trainees, specialty grades, associate specialists & consultants in all specialties with an interest in the management of children and adults with hypodontia. The aim of the study day is to: Define hypodontia & outline the important features of this group Appreciate the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the management of hypodontia Understand the principles and mechanics of pre and post restorative orthodontic treatment Identify the principles of restorative management with resin bonded bridges Discuss the use of implants in the management of hypodontia Understand the indications and benefits of tooth transplantation Apply theoretical knowledge to clinical cases and discussion

3 Meera Ahluwalia Meera was appointed as a consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at College Hospital in At the time it was felt that the hypodontia clinic required a greater emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach. A regular monthly, and subsequently a bimonthly clinic was established with consultants and trainees attending from the different specialties to discuss the dental needs of these patients including those with related complex dental problems such as trauma and medical problems, such as ectodermal dysplasia. Aws Alani Aws Alani qualified in 2003 from King's College London. After completing vocational training in Essex and junior hospital positions at Guy's Hospital and King's College Hospital he completed a one year Masters programme in Endodontics at the Eastman. He moved to Morriston Hospital, Wales and then to Newcastle where he completed his specialist training in Restorative Dentistry in In 2013 Aws became the International Team for Implantology Scholar in Toronto, Canada, working at the Hospital for Sick Children and Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. He returned to London in 2014 to become a full time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at King's College Hospital. Ravi Chauhan Ravi graduated in 2009 and completed a year in general practice in Leicester. Following this, he completed Senior House Officer posts in Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Birmingham, Leeds and London. During this period he also completed MFDS and MJDF. Ravi is now undertaking a five year specialist training programme in Restorative Dentistry at King s College Hospital and William Harvey District General Hospital. He is also undertaking a part time MSc in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman. Gavin Mack Gavin Mack has contributed to the combined Orthodontic and Restorative Clinic at King's since his appointment in During this time he has enjoyed developing his interest in the management of hypodontia patients. Mr Mack particularly enjoys the subtleties associated with a team approach to treatment planning hypodontia patients, and managing the frequently encountered orthodontic challenges of anchorage management and treatment efficiency. Lakshmi Rasaratnam Lakshmi qualified from Barts and The London in She completed her Vocational Training in London before starting her Hospital career in She has worked at Bart s and The London as a Restorative SHO in 2009 and then went back to do a Maxfac SHO job in Between 2010 and 2012, Lakshmi worked within the Restorative department at the Eastman. She joined in 2014 as a StR in Restorative Dentistry.

4 Lloyd Searson Lloyd graduated in 1980 from the Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff. He then continued to work at the school in the departments of Oral Surgery and Conservation before moving to the Eastman. In 1983 Lloyd undertook the Engineering Research Scholarship which allowed him to enroll onto the Master of Science in Restorative Dentistry programme at the University of Michigan, USA. After completing his MSc in 1985, Lloyd returned to work at the Eastman where he was a Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the department of Prosthodontics for over twenty years. Lloyd lectures nationally and internationally in all aspects of prosthodontics and implant dentistry. He has co-authored two books on implantology. He continues to treat cases and teach within the hospital setting as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at College Dental Hospital. Helen Tippett Helen Tippett was appointed to King s, as a consultant, in One of the challenges of the appointment was to develop the orthodontic and restorative service here at King s. Helen joined an established hypodontia team and implant clinic and subsequently set up the ortho/restorative clinic with Martin Kelleher to serve the needs of adult patients with hypodontia and other more complex ortho/restorative needs. As these services have grown and colleagues appointed to share the care of this group of patients Helen s main focus is now the management and treatment of hypodontia. Helen is currently involved in a multi-centre study aimed at assessing the quality of life of hypodontia patients and the potential impact of orthodontic and restorative treatment.

7 Getting here King s is in zone 2 and is well served by overground train services and the London bus network. We recommend you use public transport to get to us whenever possible because there is limited parking locally. The hospital is about a five-minute walk from Denmark Hill train station. The station is served by regular, direct rail links to central London at Blackfriars, Victoria and St Pancras International as well as to principal stops in south-east London such as Bromley South, Catford, Lewisham and Peckham Rye. It is also on the London Overground route with trains running between Highbury and Islington and Clapham Junction via Surrey Quays stopping at the station. King's is served by the following bus routes: 35, 40, 42, 45, 68, 176, 185, 345, 468, 484 You can also use these routes to travel to King's from our nearest London Underground stations: Oval, Brixton and Elephant & Castle.
