6 MASTER SERIES APPLIANCE SYSTEMS MASTER SERIES * APPLIANCE SYSTEMS *Patent #4,659,309 For many years orthodontic professionals have recognized the benefits of introducing torque, angulation and in/out values into brackets instead of archwires. As clinical experience increased, manufacturing technology advanced and innovative designs were developed, these pre-adjustments were refined and expanded. More specific values were defined and coordinated with one another to form more complete appliance systems. Master Series appliance systems, with their unique blend of patented Diagonal Torque and Diagonal Angulation, have elevated preadjusted systems to a new level. The ultimate in accuracy and efficiency, Master Series' preadjustments are integrated throughout the entire arch, including molars, to achieve full synchronization of torque, angulation, in/out and anti-rotation values. Archwire adjustments are virtually eliminated, treatment and chair time are kept to a minimum and patient comfort is greatly enhanced. Additional features of offset gingival tie wings, offset bicuspid bonding bases, chamfered occlusal wings on lower anteriors and integrated ball hooks on cuspids and bicuspids, make Master Series the most "user friendly" orthodontic appliance systems ever developed. Diagonal Torque Depending upon the system of choice, specific torque is built into each Master Series bracket. This is not unusual. What is unusual is the method of incorporating torque. Diagonal Torque is built into the brackets, not machined into the face or wedged into the base. As torque values change, the angles of the bracket sides change; this feature mitigates the problem of occlusal interference better than any bracket. Because the center of the slot is always over the center of the base, bracket slots and bases will line up horizontally without varying bracket height. SYSTEMS Diagonal Angulation In order for a preadjusted appliance to accurately and predictably move teeth with a minimum of wire bending, each bracket must be bonded in precisely the correct position on each tooth. This requires skill and experience. Diagonal Angulation, built into every Master Series bracket and pad, allows your skill to be translated into the most accurately placed brackets possible. All vertical components - tie wings, pad edges, and the tip of the pad - line up with the long axis of the clinical crown. All horizontal components - archwire slot, gingival and occlusal tie wing edges, tip of the gingival pad edge, and occlusal pad edge - line up with the occlusal plane. 8 AMERICAN ORTHODONTICS TO ORDER: /

Profiles and slot depth are accurately varied to compensate for tooth thickness and to synchronize in/outs throughout the entire arch. Accurate in/out relationships are not possible when torque is cut into the bracket face. Offset Tie Wings Occlusal tie wings on lower anterior brackets are beveled to minimize occlusal interference. This results in fewer loose brackets and less trauma to upper incisors. Also, as an option, bicuspid brackets with extended gingival tie wings are available. This feature makes ligation much easier, especially with partially erupted teeth. Offset Bicuspids In order to minimize bicuspid bond failures, American offers bicuspid brackets placed on the gingival portion of slightly larger pads. The larger pad increases bond strength while the gingival bracket placement keeps the straightwire concept intact. The ultimate in accuracy and efficiency, Master Series' preadjustments are integrated throughout the entire arch, including molars, to achieve full synchronization of torque, angulation, in/out and anti-rotation values. Integrated Ball Hooks Optional integrated ball hooks are offered on cuspid and bicuspid brackets. Hooks are cast as one piece with brackets to provide superior strength and to eliminate breakage associated with solder joints. They are ideal for intra or inter arch force applications. Buccal Tubes Master Series tubes are designed to function perfectly with the brackets. Diagonal torque is incorporated into the tubes to minimize wire bends and to avoid occlusal problems. American offers gingivally offset Diagonal Torque bicuspid brackets to help minimize these problems. The Diagonal Torque avoids occlusal interference on lower bicuspids while the larger bonding base covers more area on the occlusal one third of the buccal surface which increases bond strength. 60 TUBES Since molar attachments are such an important component of your orthodontic appliance, AMERICAN ORTHODONTICS has taken great care to design and manufacture parts that compliment a wide variety of bracket systems. Our goal is to ensure that, no matter what technique you use, you will be able to find exactly the right buccal attachments for your particular appliance system. MINI MASTER SERIES tubes feature our patented "Diagonal Torque" which places the center of the arch wire slot in line with the center of the base in order to ensure correct vertical alignment and full integration with our preadjusted Mini Master Series bracket systems. All are 3.5 mm (mesial-distally) to provide additional space and wire flexibility between the 1st and 2nd molars. The occlusal-gingival dimensions have been streamlined to avoid occlusal and tissue interferences and to maximize patient comfort. Our state-of-the-art metal injection molding (MIM) process and special stainless steel alloy guarantee strength, accuracy and smooth surfaces. MASTER SERIES buccal attachments also feature "Diagonal Torque" and are designed to fully integrate with our Master Series preadjusted appliance systems. With a mesial-distal length of 4.2 mm, these popular mid-size tubes provide excellent rotational and torque control. As the original version of the Master Series family, they share all the streamline features of the Mini Master Series line. ULTRACAST metal injection molded buccal attachments feature a wide selection of convertible and non convertible designs. Sharing the 4.2 mm mesial-distal dimension of the more specialized Master Series tubes, they also provide exceptional rotation and torque control. Ultracast tubes have smooth contours and gently radiused corners to maximize patient comfort, even when large distal offsets are required. A variety of "standard" torque and offset values are available. CAST NON CONVERTIBLE are the smoothest, most comfortable tubes available. When convertibility is not needed, these small, metal injection molded tubes are the answer. These tubes offer integral hooks, extremely accurate torques and rotations, and smooth contours. NATURAL ARCH FORM II Often referred to as the "European Arch," Form II is slightly narrower than Form I. It is most suitable for patients with narrow facial dimensions or restricted oral cavities. Ideal for use with modified pre-adjusted appliances, where low profile brackets are used, and/or when brackets are placed more gingivally. BRADER ARCH This composite (upper/lower) arch was designed around the geometry of natural dental arch forms. It is available in six sizes, from 48 mm to 68 mm, which refers to molar to molar width. BONWILL HAWLEY ARCH This classic arch form, sometimes referred to as a Standard form, incorporates only general arch symmetry. Its use is limited to wire that can be re-shaped and contoured. It has sufficient length to allow for a moderate number of loops and adjustments. Midlines are clearly marked and specific upper and lower arches are available in some wire categories. 99 NICKEL TITANIUM Wire Our nickel titanium arch wires are available in three different force levels, each exhibiting slightly different properties and working characteristics. Heat Activated exhibits the lowest, most gentle force; Force I discharges a medium force; and Force II delivers the highest force. All exhibit superelastic characteristics and much lower force values than stainless steel. NITI WIRE TERMINOLOGY Martensitic state: Cold or softest state of titanium wire. Martensitic arches are in this condition at room temperature. Austenitic state: Stiffest, most resilient state of titanium wire. Austenitic arches are in this state at room temperature. Transformation: The change from Martensitic to Austenitic state, generally induced by temperature increases. Superelastic: Highly resistant to deformation, and able to maintain relatively constant forces during rebound. Shape Memory: The ability of a wire to remember its original shape, even after being deformed. Loading force: Force generated when wire is being deflected. Often referred to as the ligating force. Unloading force: Working or rebounding force generated when the wire is returning to its original form. Transition force: The difference between loading and unloading forces HEAT ACTIVATED A Martensitic wire, exhibiting excellent shape memory and superelastic characteristics. It transforms to its Austenitic state at 35 C, delivering a very gentle continuous force. Because it is soft and pliable at room temperature, it can be easily engaged to even the most severely misaligned teeth.
