TEACHING (a) (b) Areas of Special Interest and Accomplishments Prosthodontics Geriatrics Oral Implants Dental Disease Prevention Oral Health Promotion Summary of Teaching Activities My undergraduate teaching accomplishments have included the development of a Web CT course in Removable Partial Dentures, updating the Complete Denture clinical course, and writing a Problem Based Learning (PBL) case centered around clinical, radiological, and pathological aspects of edentulous patients. I was module coordinator for the Fixed Prosthodontic course, which was updated with a new series of digital PowerPoint lectures, three-dimensional crown preparations, and videos available to students on the Faculty of Dentistry intranet. In 2006 with Dr. Tassos Irinakis, I developed the preclinical Implant Module for third and fourth undergraduate programs. Additional teaching responsibilities at UBC have included prosthodontic lectures in DENT 430 & 440, Graduate Seminars, Implant Dentistry, and clinical supervision of undergraduate dental students in field of Prosthodontics. In 1999, I received the UBC Faculty of Dentistry Killam Teaching Award and in 2009 the W.W. Wood Award for excellence in dental education. Since my full-time appointment at the Faculty of Dentistry in 1996, I have been active in the supervision of graduate students at the MSc level. I developed a Post-Graduate in Prosthodontics for the

3 Page 3/42 UBC Faculty of Dentistry leading to a diploma in Prosthodontics and a Masters of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Craniofacial Science. I developed new courses and have been course coordinator and taught in DENT 532 (Prosthodontics I), DENT 533 (Prosthodontics II), DENT 561d (Geriatrics), and DENT 527, 528, 529 (Graduate Prosthodontics Treatment Planning Seminars), and supervise one clinic for the Graduate Prosthodontics students. We graduated our first students with combined MSc & Diploma in Prosthodontics in 2013, and have a total of 13 graduates who have gone on to various careers from academia, the Canadian Forces, and private practice. In 2015, we accepted our first foreign trained specialist in prosthodontics for a one- Gap course, which is the first step in the licensure process for these clinicians. I am actively involved in continuing dental education mentoring study clubs, providing clinical courses, and lectures locally, nationally and internationally. The topics of continuing education courses have included prosthodontics, implant dentistry, dental caries, and geriatrics. I have developed a one- Certificate in Geriatrics through UBC Continuing Dental Education with our first student participating in 2016/2017. As Director of the UBC, I am involved in education at multiple levels including nursing staff, dental staff, hospital dental residents, and dental students. This program now employs over 25 people; Manager, Assistants, Research Technician, Oral Health Educators, Certified Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists, Dental Specialist Consultants, and General Dentists. The development of a manual entitled Daily Mouth Care for persons in residential care has also involved me in adult education of hospital care aides. A manual introducing dentists to issues in providing care for elderly patients in hospital settings has also been produced: Oral Health Care for persons in residential care. I have implemented a pyramidal educational program with a dental hygienist educator to educate care aides to provide daily mouth care for over 3,000 residents of 26 hospitals. The educational material from the UBC ELDERS group (Elders Link with Education, Research, and Service), developed with my input, has been used for this project. The need for additional educational format (video and computer based educational material) resulted in a successful application to the Dr. S. Wah Leung Endowment Fund for funds for this project. The has also allowed me to offer clinical experiences for 2 nd and 4 th undergraduate dental students, dental hygiene students, hospital dental residents, and graduate students. The dental staff (dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants) of the GDP program also participates in the annual UBC meeting that I organize.
