The ANKYLOS system is put in 1987 clinical use. Its unique frictionlocked and keyed TissueCare connection with a significant horizontal offset creates a platform for hard and soft tissue apposition even on the implant shoulder. FRIALIT-2 is launched with a 1992 deep, parallel-walled internal hex connection. It is the first implant system with diameter-specific color-coding for easy identification of all prosthetic components. XiVE is introduced in a 2001 subgingival option with the proven internal hex connection of FRIALIT-2 and a transgingival option with an external connection. ASTRA TECH Implant System EV 2014 is introduced, featuring a unique interface for one-position-only placement for ATLANTIS patient-specific abutments. Setting the standards in surface technology With TiOblast, the concept 1989 of blasting an implant surface with titanium dioxide particles to increase bone growth and osseointegration is introduced. A team at the University of 1990 Oslo conceives and begins research on a concept of a fluoridemodified implant surface. After extensive research, OsseoSpeed is introduced to the market in The first grit-blasted and acidetched Deep Profile Surface 1992 is launched on FRIALIT-2 stepped screw implants. FRIADENT plus microstructure 2003 is introduced, featuring advanced technologies in grit-blasting and high-temperature etching that results in earlier osseointegration and high bone-toimplant contact. Innovating implant thread design ANKYLOS is introduced with 1987 a progressive thread design, providing even load distribution for maintenance of crestal bone. MicroThread at the implant 1991 neck is developed and provided on the ASTRA TECH Implant System to ensure positive biomechanical bone stimulation and maintained marginal bone level. XiVE implants are launched 2001 with ActiveBoneControl the patented combination of bone-specific preparation protocol and a bonecondensing thread design providing high primary stability in all bone types. 9 Advancing treatment protocols FRIALIT-1, the first root-analog 1974 dental implant is developed with Prof. Dr. Willi Schulte (Tübingen University, Germany), and revolutionizes implant dentistry with its immediate implant placement protocol. Bar-supported immediate 1987 loading of dental implants becomes possible with the introduction of the transgingival New Ledermann Screw. The TempBase approach for 2001 smart chairside fabrication of temporary restorations immediately after implant placement is introduced with XiVE. The OsseoSpeed TX Profile 2011 implant, especially designed for maintaining the crestal bone level in sloped ridge situations, is added to the ASTRA TECH Implant System portfolio. Starting the digital trend with guided surgery SIMPLANT open solution 1993 software for digital 3D implant planning is introduced, winning the European Stereolithography Excellence Award. The SIMPLANT Guide for 1994 precise implant placement receives its patent. Bone-supported SIMPLANT 1999 guides are introduced. Tooth-supported (2002) and mucosasupported (2003) drill guides are added to the portfolio, making minimally invasive surgery possible. SIMPLANT SAFE Guide, 2004 the first solution for guided drilling and implant placement, is launched. Customized designs for use with brandspecific surgical instruments are added in Immediate Smile open 2011 solutions are introduced for pre-operative fabrication of temporary restorations based on the patient s planning data and further expanded in 2013 featuring ATLANTIS Abutment. Going beyond CAD/CAM Patient-specific ATLANTIS 1999 abutments designed from the final tooth shape are introduced. ATLANTIS ISUS patientspecific implant 2005 suprastructures in titanium and cobaltchrome alloy are available for fabricating fixed and removable implant-supported prostheses. Lab-based scanning is 2009 introduced, reducing turnaround time and eliminating the cost of shipping case material. ATLANTIS Crown Abutment for 2011 patient-specific, screw-retained, single-tooth restorations is launched, as is ATLANTIS ISUS 2in1, combining the advantages of screw-retained stability with removable prosthetic convenience. ATLANTIS Abutment Core File, 2012 a high-precision digital file of the abutment design and all scanned data is introduced to facilitate the production of a final coping before the ATLANTIS Abutment is received. Intraoral scanning for 2014 ATLANTIS Abutment is introduced, ensuring efficient coordination between clinician and dental laboratory. 9
