Workshpurile sunt hands-on si includ demonstratii live. This 4-day course is organized with lectures, video, live demonstrations and workshops so that the participating doctors will learn and understand how to use Dr. Brown s system of Straight Wire orthodontic treatment. During Day 1 and Day 2 the participating doctors will learn: The correct techniques for Straight Wire Appliance (SWA) direct bracketing and for molar banding. The various bracketing schemes that are used in treating different types of malocclusions in order to obtain the desired result will be learned. Discussion of the use of ligating and self-ligating brackets The arch wire system of the SWA: 1. The Heat Activated NiTi (HA NiTi) Wires use the lightest forces available today, are super elastic and obtain the best results. These are used for leveling and for finishing. 2. Intrusion/bite opening wires 3. The 19x25 steel wire The working Wire --- used during the phase where heavier forces are used. 4. How to place, fit and adjust the wires. The many auxiliaries of the SWA are also placed (see below). Hands-on Workshops consist of the placement of: brackets molar bands and molar tubes Arch Wires (different types) placing and adjusting intra-oral elastics molar bend-backs NiTi Tanspalatal Expander Video or live demonstrations: various separators ligature ties Kobi hooks open-coil spring
2 closed-coil (closing) springs chain elastic Ligating as well as Self-ligating brackets will be presented and discussed Indirect bracketing technique the advantages and disadvantages will be discussed. Day 1 and 2 June 14, 15 The Straight Wire Appliance (SWA) Bracketing for Success using the bracketing system of Dr Brown. How and why it works so well. Discussion, instruction and video demonstration on the placement of the brackets, molar bands and molar tubes of the SWA using light-cure adhesives. The biomechanics and the placing of the basic arch wires used in the leveling/aligning phase of most cases. There is instructional video showing these procedures on an actual patient, which also shows which instruments are to be used. Hands on Workshop on the typodont: Placing the brackets and molar bands and molar tubes (using non-mix light cure adhesives). The arch wires used in the leveling/aligning phase of treatment for most cases will be fitted and ligated in place. Placing of molar bend-backs Video or live demonstrations will show the placement of: 1. using separators (3 types) 2. elastomeric and metal ligature ties 3. Kobi hooks 4. open-coil spring 5. chain elastic There will be a brief lecture on the biomechanics and the use of CLII and CLIII intra-oral elastics for the correction of malocclusions and for space closure in extraction cases. Special elastics for specific situations such as settling-in the occlusion or closing-down an open bite. Biomechanics of CLI forces - CLI intra-maxillary forces used for space closure. You will receive a comprehensive syllabus on elastic therapy for future reference. 19x25 steel wire The working Wire. Discussion, instruction and live demonstration on how to adjust the 19x25 steel wire The working Wire wire forming wire torquing de-torquing Hands-on Workshop: Adjusting the 19x25 steel wire as described above. Hands-on workshop: CLI, CLII CLIII and special elastics 200gram NiTi Closing springs for CLI space closure Chain elastics. Lecture and Workshop: The use of the 16x22 NiTi intrusion wire. 1. The pre-formed 16x22 NiTi intrusion wires are used for incisor intrusion, bite opening and arch leveling in a 2x4 set-up mixed dentition case. The use of the NiTi Reverse Curve Wires (RCS). 1. The pre-formed RCS wires are used for incisor intrusion, bite opening and arch leveling in adolescent and adult cases. Discussion of the use of the Heat Activated Nitanium (NiTi) Trans-palatal Expander and the Heat Activated Nitanium (NiTi) Trans-palatal Molar Rotator. o These are easy to place,
3 o biomechanically provide an optimal, light and constant force o Do not need adjustment once they are in place. Workshop on the typodont: Placing and adjusting a 16x16 Pre-formed UAW Placing a 17x25 NiTi RCS wire. Placing a Heat Activated Nitanium (NiTi) Trans-palatal Molar Rotator If time allows, there will be Clinical case presentations of patient cases Treating CLII and CLIII malocclusion patients using the SWA. Treatment of an extraction case using CLI sliding mechanics and en masse space closure. After this session is finished, the participating dentists, even those who have never placed or used the SWA before, will be begin to be able to visualize how the SWA is used to treat malocclusions. They will also see their patients as never before, and they will understand the systematic treatment mechanics used in the treatment of their patients. Day 3 June 16 The art of modern orthodontics - creating dazzling smiles and beautiful Faces The treatment system of Dr Brown Artistic, logical, easy to do with consistent, beautiful orthodontic and esthetic results. The art of diagnosis for Straight Wire Appliance (SWA) therapy. Artistic Treatment planning Combining the artistic approach with the scientific data. Mechanical treatment The correct use of the SWA and its auxiliaries. Using Optimal smart forces (light, constant Heat activated) to reach our treatment goals. Clinical case presentations: Diagnostic analysis, treatment planning and mechanical treatment planning of many different patients. Mixed dentition ages CLI, CLII CLIII Adolescent ages CLII and CLIII Adult ages CLII and CLIII. There will be deep bite cases and open-bite cases. These cases will demonstrate the time-tested, systematic and logic approach to patient treatment using Dr. Brown s system of SWA orthodontics Day 4 June 17 Study Club, Dr. Larry Brown Diagnosis, treatment planning and problem solving during the treatment of young patients and adults Study Club meetings are arranged so that the participating doctors in the club have a chance to discuss their personal cases, either new cases or cases in progress. All can benefit from Dr. Brown s 30 years of experience using of the SWA (Straight Wire Appliance). Each participating doctor in the course can bring 2 of their own cases for consultation and personal coaching and from Dr Brown. Certain of these cases, chosen by Dr. Brown because of their interesting features, will be projected on the Screen so that everyone in the group can benefit from the discussion. If time permits, Dr. Brown will give personal consultation for additional cases. In order for Dr. Brown to be able to give a correct diagnosis and proper coaching, the doctors are asked to bring a USB stick/pen drive with the necessary facial photos (front and profile, natural lip position and smiling), photos of the 5 views of
4 the study models, cephalometric x-ray and tracing, panoramic x-ray. If the photos are with brackets already in place, please provide the necessary written info as to what bracketing scheme was used, and the wires or other types of appliances that are in place at the time of the photos. The doctors are also asked to provide a written description of the important findings of each case, a general Global Treatment Plan and to provide a more detailed month by month Treatment Plan. This exercise is important for the education of the doctor. During this part of the course, Dr Brown could project on the screen examples of his personal cases to help the doctors visualize the treatment mechanics needed in their own cases. Types of cases that can be discussed: Young patients mixed dentition and adolescent Adult patients extraction and non-extraction Maxilo-facial Surgical combined with orthodontics During the discussion of these various clinical cases by Dr Brown, most of the following subjects will be discussed: The basic theory on «Human Growth Patterns» and the development of orthodontic problems The Esthetic Diagnosis of Dr Brown Study model evaluation The Cephalometirc x-ray and tracing analysis The basics of the biomechanics involved in the treatment The details of the actual mechanical treatment of the patient The potential problems to watch out for during the treatment Finishing the case to obtain an optimal occlusion along with an esthetic harmony of the face, jaws and teeth.
