1 Extraordinary Tips for Cerec Restorations

STEPHEN TSOTSOS PRESIDENT CANADIAN ACADEMY OF COMPUTERIZED DENTISTRY ISCD Certified Instructor, Canada As an ISCD/ ACD Certified Cerec Trainer, part of my job is to teach new Cerec users the importance of clean tooth preparation. Whether we re preparing for a simple inlay, onlay crown or veneer the preparation must be well finished so the Cerec milling unit can machine an all-ceramic restoration that fits immaculately. The best way to finish proximal walls of the interproximal box is to use a Profin Lamineer 50 micron tip (LTA S50) after traditional preparation with rotary diamonds. These Profin tips create a very clean proximal box that then allows Cerec to do what it does best: create an all-ceramic restoration with excellent marginal integrity. DR. 3 I was so impressed with its versatility in both prep design and finishing that I have purchased a Profin attachment for each of my handpiece cassettes so that I always have a Profin readily available. The shapes I like best are the LTAS slim and LTA standard. I will normally use these in four grits, 150, 100, 50, 30. I use the 150 and 100 for gross smoothing and the 50 and 30 for fine finishing just prior to my final polishing. I also find the Profin to be very useful for finishing the facial aspect of anterior composites as it virtually eliminates the white line. The Profin really has unlimited applications, restricted only by your imagination. I highly recommend adding the Profin technology to your armamentarium. Dr. James Connors: Favorite Tips: 1. 4 The Profin DENNIS FASBINDER DDS, MAGD, ABGD ISCD Certified Instructor, MI The benefits of a smooth, crisp, cavity prep for Cerec restorations cannot be overstated. Excellent Cerec restorations are the result of excellent preparations. I have found the Profin to be an excellent aid to refine cavity preparations. It is also useful to finish hard-to-reach interproximal areas. The LTA-S100 and LTA-S75 tips are very useful for refining vertical proximal walls and margins. The LTA S75- and LTA-S50 are effective in contouring the interproximal margins and cement overhangs. And the LTA-S30 and LTA S-15 are used for final finishing of interproximal contours without damaging tooth or margins. DENNIS FASBINDER,

So I start with the LTA- S75 or 50 for refining flares, then finish with the 30 or 15. The LTA-S15 also works well for reshaping the proximal contact with adjacent teeth. Interproximal and gingival reshaping is a breeze with no chance of ditching margins. The Profin is an indispensable tool and a must-have for the CEREC users armamentarium.
