2 WREB Exams at Clark College (Clark) Patient Procurement and Screening: Candidates must provide their own patient. Clark will not furnish any patients or make any records available for patient screening prior to the exam. Clark will not provide clinical space for patient screening. Anesthesia Administration during hygiene board: Clark does not provide a practitioner(s) from the school to administer local anesthesia to candidates patients. There are no exceptions to this policy. The Clinic: Clark clinic and lab is equipped with A-Dec chairs and workstations. Two handpiece hoses are available on each unit: a six (6) pin A-Dec high speed handpiece hose and a four (4) pin A-Dec slow speed hose. The chair side computer monitor is not available for candidate use. High speed 6 pin connection Slow speed 4 hose connection Handpieces: Candidates are responsible to supply their own handpiece and attachment. If a candidate needs a handpiece or latch angle attachment they will be available for rent with prior arrangements. Rental charge for each handpiece is $25.00 payable by cashier s check. A deposit check of $ must be left with the clinic assistant, the deposit will be returned when the handpiece is returned. Rental charge for the latch angle will be $20.00 payable by cashier s check with a $ deposit check to be returned to you when rental item is returned. Blood Pressure Cuff: Candidates are responsible to supply their own blood pressure cuff. 2 P a g e
3 Patient eye wear: Candidates are responsible to supply their patient with dark patient glasses with side shields. Ultrasonic Scaler: Candidates must supply their own ultrasonic unit. Air and water connections are available at each chair. Air and Water connections for ultrasonic Radiographs: Radiology will not be available for candidate use. All candidates must provide radiographs for all patients, including back-up patients. Metal A-Dec air/water syringe tips: Metal syringe tips are recommended for safety reasons. Disposable air/water syringe tips damage the O-rings in the air/water syringe and cause water crossover into the air line. Therefore the use of disposable air/water syringe tips is prohibited at Clark. Each unit will be supplied with one metal air/water syringe tip for clinical, restorative, and anesthesia exams. The metal tip is the property of Clark and will be bagged for sterilization at the end of the exam. Parking: Parking for candidates and patients is available in the Brown 1 parking lot on the East side of the building. Parking is open in all unmarked/unmetered spaces; do not park in spaces marked with F/S, or Dental Patient. Infection control procedures for Clark: There will be disinfecting supplies located on the chairside cabinetry and will be shared by two operators. Use the ProSpray to clean any visible debris from the upholstery and for any touchable surfaces on and around the unit. The ProSpray is sprayed onto a paper towel and used to wipe the contaminated surface, do not spray ProSpray directly on the surfaces. All used suction lines must be cleaned using the ICX suction cleaning system. Instruction will be given during the clinic tour. 3 P a g e
4 Unit set-up: After cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces, wash your hands with antimicrobial soap. All supplies are available for unit set up at the central supply counter. Basic Chair Set-Up Procedure 1 large chair bag 3 short syringe sleeves o Bracket tray handle o Light handles (2) 2 long syringe sleeves o A/W syringe o Saliva ejector 1 saliva evacuator 1 Air/Water syringe tip 2 sticky sheets o Operator chair White bag (not pictured) Location of sharps disposal containers: Red sharps containers will be available above the sink between the treatment chairs, two clinicians will share a sharps container. Clinical treatment area procedure end of exam: You must wear gloves, safety eyewear, and mask for all clean-up activities. Do not use gloves that were worn for patient treatment to clean the operatory. Remove contaminated surface covers without contaminating the previously disinfected surfaces. Begin with the large plastic cover on the chair, turn the bag inside out and place on the chair seat. Place the other covers, trash bag, and other disposable items in the bag. Tie bag closed and dispose of the items in the garbage at the chair. Contaminated needles and used anesthetic cartridges are regulated waste and are placed in the sharps containers. Do Not place the protector cards in the sharps container; these items can go in the trash. Location of oxygen and other emergency equipment: There are two (2) portable oxygen tanks available and are equipped with an oxygen mask. The portable tanks are located across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. Locations of the tanks are marked with O2 on the clinic floor plan. Emergency medical supplies are located in the mobile cart across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. 4 P a g e
5 AED is located in the emergency mobile cart across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. Limited sterilization will be available: Candidates should arrive with all items needed already sterilized. In cases of dropped instruments or otherwise contaminated a Statim steam sterilizer is available. Dropped or contaminated instruments: Sterilization of instruments is only available for instruments that have been dropped during the exam. Notify the clinic assistant that you have dropped an instrument and need it sterilized to complete your exam. Your instrument will be bagged, sterilized, and returned to you as promptly as possible. Anesthesia exam: If a syringe is contaminated during the exam, or the candidate needs to re-take the exam, your syringe will be sterilized for you. Notify the clinic assistant that you will need your syringe sterilized and for what reason. You will be provided with sterilization bag, write your candidate number on the bag. The clinic assistant will take your syringe to sterilization for processing. Your syringe will either be returned to you at the chair or in the candidate waiting area for re-testing. Basic Emergency and Safety Information Phones: There are two cordless phones available in the clinic for emergency use only. Both phones are located on the central counter between the north and south sides of the clinic, one on either end. To contact 911 you dial 911, no prefix needed. Campus security can be contacted from any campus phone by dialing Fire Extinguishers: There are three (3) fire extinguishers available. Main clinic on the west wall to the south of sterilization. Outside of the main clinic in the hallway to the north of sterilization. Front lobby area outside HSC 131. How to use: pull the pin, aim the nozzle at the base of the fire and squeeze the trigger Do not use the fire extinguisher on a large or fast moving fire. Leave the clinic area immediately taking your patient with you. 5 P a g e
6 Nearest Exits: There is an exit door to the north of the clinic between chair 3 and 5. There is an exit door to the south of the clinic between chair 22 and 24. Main clinic door located on the east of the clinic Door to the north of sterilization which leads to a main exit door to the west of the building Eyewash stations: Candidate and patient must wear eye protection during the entire clinic session. An eyewash station is located at the central sink on the north side of the clinic and in sterilization. Emergency Oxygen: Two portable emergency tanks are available with masks across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. Ambou bag and positive pressure oxygen mask is located in the mobile emergency cart across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. First Aid and Emergency medications: Emergency medications are located in the mobile cart across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. First aid supplies are located in the mobile cart across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. Cold packs are available in the emergency mobile cart. AED: The AED is located in the mobile emergency cart across from sterilization in the northwest corner of the clinic. MSDS Manuals/Books: Located in the marked cabinet across from sterilization. Needle stick exposure protocol: Notify the clinical assistant or site supervisor for assistance with completing the required paperwork. 6 P a g e
