October 3-31 Thank you for getting involved with It s a simple way to show your commitment to having a safety culture at work and to get everyone together to talk and learn about health, safety and wellbeing. We ve created this event toolkit to help you start planning and promoting your event.
2 Tips & ideas for your event Making safety relevant for everyone Event format Get your team together to watch a live webcast information on webcasts can be found under the Live Broadcast section of the website. Hold an activity with your team visit worksafeeveryday.com.au to find a range of activity ideas (learn what inspectors look for, find the hazards, assess the risks and fix the problems in your workplace). Encourage your team to check out some safety videos. There are a variety available on WorkSafe s YouTube channel, including instructional animations and case studies. Complete the How safe is your workplace online selfassessment acknowledge what you re doing well and develop an action plan for areas of improvement. Event topic/theme In choosing a topic or theme for your event, consider the nature of your business and industry, and the needs of your employees. Some ideas to consider include: Learning & Safety culture Workplace hazards Top causes of injuries for your industry Supporting injured workers return to work Workplace mental health & wellbeing Use our Injury Hotspots tool to identify common causes of injuries in your industry and discuss safety solutions. Hold an occupational health and safety refresher training for your employees. Reward or recognise an employee who has demonstrated excellence in health and safety or return to work. Brainstorm & launch a new health and wellbeing initiative for your employees/workplace
3 Cameron Ling, Event planning template Tips to make your event a success Topic What is the topic for your event? Event Format What will the format of your event be? For example, team meeting, training, webinar. Event Name Give your event a short and catchy name. Brief Description Write a brief description about your event that you can use for internal promotion. What is the purpose of your event? Define the purpose and any actions to implement. What do you want to achieve? Being clear about what you want to achieve with your event will help you plan your content and evaluate its success. For example, do you want to raise awareness about your chosen topic or change a particular behaviour within your workplace? Content and structure Think about the type of content you need to cover about your topic and where you can source the information from. We have provided some resources to help you get started. Tip: Use bullet points to structure the main points try to keep your key ideas simple and on topic. When Choose a date for your event during sometime during October. Time Include the start and finish time for your event. RSVP Do you need employees to RSVP to attend your event? Who will manage the RSVPs? (Be sure to provide their name and contact details). Promoting your event How will you promote your event to employees?
4 Promoting your event These assets will help you create awareness invite copy Subject line: You re invited: event body: You re invited to join us for an event to celebrate WorkSafe and demonstrate our shared commitment to ensuring we have a safe workplace. What: [insert brief description of what you re planning to do e.g. refresher training on a particular topic, organising a team meeting to watch a live webcast from Health and Safety Month in Melbourne]. Article or Intranet copy This year [insert your business name] will be holding an event to celebrate WorkSafe. WorkSafe Victoria holds each year to give Victorian employers and workers an opportunity to learn best practice and understand their obligations in health and safety and return to work. Our event will focus on [insert your topic or theme] and be held [insert your event details]. When: [insert the date for your event] Time: [insert the start and finish times for your event] Where: [insert the location of your event] RSVP: [include contact person and /phone number and the date to RSVP by] We look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions please contact [insert contact person and phone/ for further information]. Regards, [Insert name and title of sender] Workplace poster Print out the poster on the following page, add your event details, and pin it up around your workplace. Don t forget to tell us about your workplace s Health & Safety Month event.
