Combine your reading of this part of your manual with the videos contained in the Online Training Centre labelled Instructing System Videos. Read p.6-46 of the Platinum Manual to learn about Important Information What to Expect Studio Pilates International 8
9 How to Study Introduction Pilates Basics The Delivery of Your Class Instructing an SPI Class The SPI Instructing System All of the Instructing System Module videos (Approximately 5 hours) STEP 5 Complete the Exercise Workshop Module Watch the workshop videos in the Exercise Workshop Module As you watch the workshop video, read through the corresponding exercise page in your Platinum Manual A) When you come to the exercises in your manual, read through each one carefully and fully, gaining an in depth understanding of the movement and how the exercise should look, the resistance, what to say when making a personal connection as well as the prioritised group cue. B) Watch the sample video that appears on screen in a Studio Pilates class in the Online Training Centre on the Exercise Workshops page and this appears on the left hand side. Please listen carefully to what the voiceover says, how it is said, the duration of it and most importantly when there is the gap in the voice over. You manual will also guide you with this with the time codes. C) Watch the exercise workshop to gain further insight into the exercise. This is situated on the right hand side of the Exercise Workshops web pages. D) Listen to the audio track of the group cue. With this prioritized group cue committed to memory, practice saying this group cue out loud over and over again. Start by using the manual and reading the group cue repeatedly with the audio track. Then practice saying it out loud with the manual, then progress to saying it out loud without the assistance of the manual. We recommend that you practice this in front of the mirror so that you can also practice improving the smile on your face whilst you deliver your group cue and you can work on your body language as well. Studio Pilates International 9
10 D) Put it all together by standing in front of the mirror, pressing play on the Digital Exercise Delivery System video (the one on the left) and practice doing your personal connections with each exercise and when the gap in the voiceover comes on, deliver the prioritised group cue out loud in front of the mirror, pretending that you re teaching a class. (Approximately 27 hours) STEP 6 Complete the Physical Corrections Module All of the Physical Corrections Module videos (Approximately 1 hour) STEP 7 Take Your Tests DO DO Take the Platinum Instructing Exam Take the Body Essentials Exam (if you haven t done so already) (Approximately 2 hours) Recapping: Spend the majority of your time studying and practicing the group cue in front of the mirror. It doesn t have to be word for word precise but we will want it pretty close. Use the video file and you should be able to deliver this out loud confidently before you come to your course. Study Tips: Master one exercise at a time before moving on to the next one Don t worry about saying anything fancy, just stick to the group cue as it s written is fine Allow yourself enough time to study, don t leave it to the week before your course. There is only a certain amount of new information that you can familiarise yourself with at once so don t get caught short with your time due to lack of planning and foresight. This is not your Studio Pilates International 10
11 course facilitator s problem or responsibility, it s yours... They will not catch you up in their own time, you will need to sit the course again. Practice, practice, practice! Studio Pilates International 11
