Gymnasts numbered 1 and 4 are partners and gymnasts numbered 2 and 3 are partners. As per preliminary instructions, these gymnasts should have already been paired for size and strength. For the remainder of this music (about 40 second) each player attempts to get his opponent s seat to touch the floor, using only the legs to do so. Opponents may not kick each other; but must attempt to get a leg under the opponent s leg and cause him to lose balance. Contact with any body part other than the legs is not permitted. Each player scores one point for each time his opponent is seated. The partner with the most points at the end of the music is the winner. SECOND EXERCISE GAMES PART B Shoulder touch Music from Carnival of Venice Introduction: 8 measures fast ¾ tempo I-II III-IV All rise to stand facing partner no more than two feet apart from each other, half way between the markers that were the starting point for the previous game; Right halfbend sidearm downslant, palm front;

7 V-VIII With left hand, grasp opponent s right wrist; For the remainder of this music (about 12 seconds) the object is to touch the opponent s shoulder with your right hand. It is permissible to take steps in the immediate area, but not to run or let go of partner s wrist. The partner with the most touches at the end of the music is the winner. SECOND EXERCISE GAMES PART C Squat tag Music from Fiddle Faddle Introduction: 9 measures ¾ tempo and 4 measures 2/4 tempo For this game, ranks are designated A and B from the front to the back. I-IX I-IX X X XI-XIII GYMNASTS IN RANK A Gymnasts in 1A and 4A stand at attention between markers 1A and 2A, shoulder to shoulder facing the front. Gymnasts 2A and 3A face to the rear and run fore outward, gymnast 3A to marker of 3B and gymnast 2A to marker of 4B. Both turn to face 3B and 2B who remain between markers 3B and 4B. See diagram. For the remainder of this music (about one minute and forty-eight seconds): Within each group of four gymnasts, the one standing on marker 3 begins as it. It chases chases the remaining standing player around the squatters in either direction. The squatters should be far enough apart so that it is not easy to reach across over top of them. If it succeeds in tagging the player, they reverse roles and continue playing. At any time, either player may trade places with either of the squatters by tapping one on the shoulder. The squatters must remain aware of who is it so that they know which role to assume whenever they are tapped. The children should be encouraged to exchange places often. The squatters may kneel on one knee if it suits them. An incomplete rank of one to three gymnasts should join the nearest complete row And play as above but with additional squatters. In a crowded situation, Ranks A and B can be combined and the game played with

8 six squatters.
