After watching a range of recorded professional performances, you will write your own reviews. You will then identify different performance techniques you can then use in your own performance. You will continue to work either as a soloist or as part of an ensemble with a view to performing to others at the end of the term. 12 YEAR 8 PE Knowledge organiser for Summer Term 2 Essential Knowledge - PHYSICAL Components of Fitness Component of Fitness Fitness Test Sporting Example Body Composition - the relative ratio of fat mass to fat-free mass (vital organs, muscle, bone) in the body. Skinfold BMI - Body Mass Index BIA - Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Boxers need to seriously consider their body type (mesomorph, endomorph, ectomorph) they need to be able to make certain weights in order to fight. If there ration of fat to fat free mass is too high they are likely to not be able to make weight. Flexibility - having an adequate range of motion in all joints of the body, the ability to move a joint fluidly through its complete range of movement. Sit and Reach Gymnasts need flexibility in order to be able to move their body into certain positions and score high amounts of points. Without the right range of motion, gymnasts will be unable to learn how to do certain skills. They will also receive deductions when they cannot reach a certain position Hip flexibility is important for splits, jumps and leaps. Muscular Endurance - the ability of the muscular system to work efficiently, where a muscle can continue contracting over a period of time against a light to moderate fixed resistance load. 1 minute press ups 1 minute sit ups Tennis players need high levels of muscular endurance because they need to be able to repeatedly hit the ball and return it to their opponent without their arms becoming tired. If their arms become tired they won t be able to do long rallies and their returns will not go where they want it to. Muscular Strength - the maximum force (in kg or N) that can be generated by a muscle or muscle group. Hand Grip Dynamometer 1 Repetition Max Weight lifters need to have high levels of muscular strength. In their competitions the person who can lift the heaviest weight is the winner. High levels of strength = ability to lift heavy weights. Aerobic Endurance - the ability of the cardiorespiratory system to work efficiently, supplying nutrients and oxygen to working muscles during sustained physical activity. Multi Stage Fitness Test (Bleep) Long distance runners need this in order to be able to run for long periods of time without getting tired. They need their cardio respiratory systems to act in an efficient way and supply oxygen to their muscles for a long period of time whist also removing lactic acid. Speed - distance divided by the time taken. Speed is measured in metres per second (m/s). 35m Sprint Forestry Step Test Rounders players need speed when running around the bases. The faster they can run around the bases the more chance they have of scoring points. Especially when running from 1st to 2nd on a backwards hit.

13 YEAR 8 PE Knowledge organiser for Summer Term 2 Essential Knowledge - SKILL RELATED Components of Fitness Component of Fitness Test Sporting Example Balance - the ability to maintain centre of mass over a base of support. There are two types of balance (static and dynamic) No recognised test Power - the product of strength and speed (Strength x Speed). Actions that are performed quickly with strong muscle contractions Vertical Jump Shot putters need enormous amounts of power, they are performing very short actions, and they are performing them with large amounts of force (strength) the more power they can generate the higher the chances of throwing further. Coordination - the smooth flow of movement needed to perform a motor task efficiently and accurately. No recognised test Cricket players need good coordination in order to be able to successfully hit the ball where they want it to go, or to be able to use many body part together when bowling in order to generate the right type of bowl in the right areas. Agility - the ability of a sports performer to quickly and precisely move or change direction without losing balance or time. Illinois Agility Run Football players need agility in order to be able to change direction quickly when dribbling past a player or when defending against a tricky player if you can change direction quickly whilst maintaining balance then they will have less success when attempting to dribble past. Reaction Time - the time taken for a sports performer to respond to a stimulus and the initiation of their response. No recognised test Sprinters need good reaction time in order to be able to respond to the starting gun quickest, if you get a faster start then you will have a headstart on your opponents. The faster a sprinter is out of the blocks the faster he is able to reach top speeds. Stork stand Balance beam Hand Wall Toss Ruler Drop Test Badminton players need balance in order to play good successful shots over the net. Often they are stretching for the shuttle when they hit it, if they were unbalanced the the shot is less likely to be successful
