1 TRUNK - 2 Flexion: Stretch Low Back Extensors (Supine) Position Helper: Support legs with knees bent toward chest. - Helper presses legs toward abdomen. Hold seconds. Contract method: Resist seconds. (see card G.G.-14) TRUNK - 4 Flexion: Isometric (Sitting) Position Helper: Place both hands on front of chest below collar bones. - Cue patient to curl chest toward lap. Stand behind patient to perform exercise. Perform with torso leaning forward. Perform with torso turned toward: left right Page 1 of 7

(B) - Sit upright using back muscles, not arms. - Helper provides support as needed to control movement. Patient is passive. TRUNK - 6 Extension: Stabilized Bridging (Supine) Position (A) Helper: Stabilize legs by holding near knees. Block feet if unstable. Helper: Place both hands on hips. - Cue patient to press feet down into bed, lifting buttocks. Do sessions per day. Perform with buttocks lifted inches off bed. TRUNK - 11 Lateral Flexion: Isometric (Side-Lying) Position Patient: Lie with side up. Helper: Stabilize shoulder. Place one or both hands on side of shoulder. - Cue patient to bend to side at waist, pressing into helper's hand. - Buttocks do not move. Repeat on other side. Perform with torso bent toward: left right TRUNK - 13 Rotation: ROM (Supine) Position (A) Helper: Place hand on knee. Stabilize shoulder on same side. (B) - Lower legs to side. - Keep shoulders flat. CAUTION: Discontinue if patient experiences back pain during exercise. Repeat to other side. Contract method: Resist seconds. (see card G.G.-14) Patient is passive. Page 5 of 7

Helper: Place one hand behind shoulder blade, other hand in front of opposite shoulder near collarbone. - Gently turn to side by twisting at waist. - Stop at point of tension or discomfort. Repeat in other direction. Contract method: Resist seconds. (see card G.G.-14) Patient is passive. TRUNK - 15 Rotation: Facilitated (Side-Lying) Position Patient: Lie with side up. Helper: Stabilize above waist on rib cage. Place other hand on hip. - Helper moves hip forward and back times. - Cue patient to continue the motion. - Helper assists as needed to control motion.
