8 Objectives: Athlete Development : Functional Phase To determine the youth athletes technical competency and to measure if the technical competency has been affected over the 8 week training period. To determine what strength level each youth athlete achieves through a battery of strength tests and to identify if this strength level has been affected over the eight week period. To identify an appropriate resistance training programme for a GAA youth athlete including responsible progressions and adaptations to improve both the youth athlete s competency and strength levels. To assess the most appropriate battery of strength assessments that are suitable for a GAA youth athlete while focusing on the safety of each individual. 17/10/2016 coaching.wexford@gaa.ie 8
9 Benefits of the Programme Assess players knowledge and ability to perform age appropriate exercises. Design an appropriate Functional Movement Programme based on data collected. This programme will contribute to injury prevention by ensuring correct technique is known and practiced. Youth players will be adequately prepared to undertake strength and conditioning programmes when they reach adult inter-county level. 13/10/2015 9
