Assessment: WWW: Confirming dx of Mycoplasma WDW: Never confirmed Lyme infection; never tested for EBV Detoxification: WWW: Not in terrible shape to begin with; Very consistent with hydration, juicing, herbs and cleansing diet; WDW: not interested in trying colon cleansing, but since he did not suffer from constipation, this did not hold him back; Gut: WWW: Had already spent a couple of years working to eliminate candida; Lots of help at home from wife who was totally on board with clean eating, food combining; Hormones: Not an area of holdback in this case. 11 Gu Syndrome & Diagnostics Body is hollowed out from the inside out by dark yin forces that cannot be seen. Gu pathogens operate in the dark. It s often unclear how they are contracted, making accurate dx much more difficult. Most doctors are confused by presentation and multiplicity of sx. 13 The Controversy: Diagnostic Criteria IDSA History of tick bite in Lyme-endemic area Bull s eye rash is primary determiner. Fever, joint aches, bell s palsy Bloodwork is diagnostic using 2-tier testing + Elisa + 5/10 or more bands on Western blot = positive for Lyme. ILADS < 50% Lyme patients recall a tick bite. Lyme disease has spread world-wide; if it is found in animals (dogs, mice) it is infecting people too. Way < 50% Lyme patients produce a Bull s eye rash. These symptoms + potentially many more. Testing is unreliable for many reasons, so Lyme must be a clinical dx.

14 The root of the controversy is the lack of reliable biological markers and the diagnostic tests for the disease. Until we can separate the infected from the non-infected and the cured from the uncured, arguments over diagnosis and treatment approaches will continue. 18 All bands are not created equal. There are 9 known Lyme Borrelia burgdorferi species specific Western Blot antibodies (bands): 18, 23, 31, 34, 37, 39, 83 and 93. Only one of these Borrelia burgdorferi genus specific bands is needed to confirm that there is lab evidence of exposure to the Bb spirochete and can confirm a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease. - Dr. Charles Ray Jones Non-specific cross-reacting antibodies: 28, 41, 45, 58, 66

19 CDC Western Blot Surveillance for acute infection via IgM antibodies includes only 2 antibodies, 23 and 39, and excludes the other 7 Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies. Surveillance for IgG includes 18, 23, 30, 37, 39 and 93 and exculdes 31, 34, and 83. They do include 5 of the non-specific, cross-reacting antibodies: 28, 41, 45, 58, and 66.

20 Making A Clinical Diagnosis for LD Probable exposure to ticks or a known tick bite. Clinical picture consistent with persistent Borreliosis, including positive signs and symptoms. Symptoms develop over months to years Symptoms travel from place to place, system to system Symptoms relapse and remit Lab evidence of exposure to 1 or more tick-borne pathogens. Supportive tests for infection Complement 4a -> high Complement 3a -> high CD57 -> low MRI s of brain / spinal cord can show glial scarring, inflammation

21 CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS Have patient bring in all testing, scans, labwork General history Utilize a questionnaire like Dr. Horowitz s or Dr. Burrascano s questionnaire and/or the Lyme symptom checklist Check for signs Abnormalities of the pulse or blood pressure Abnormalities of the skin take pics w/ coin or ruler Cranial nerve testing Look at forehead lines if on only 1 side, sign of Bell s Palsy

22 Acute Misdiagnoses **to be on the lookout for** Viral infection / meningitis / mono / post-viral syndrome Sinusitis Spider bite Ringworm Cellulitis Stress / anxiety Migraine CFS, Fibro Any unexplained -itis

23 WHEN IT S NOT A CLEAR CUT CASE Skip ELISA testing altogether. Level 1 testing: Use insurance-covered conventional lab testing. Always obtain a copy of the labs to analyze for yourself. Level 2 testing: If the patient can afford IgenX testing without compromising treatment, then utilize this lab for a much more accurate result. Always at least 6 weeks after bite.

25 Do you want wellness, or do you want a diagnosis? When you and/or your client remains unsure of the diagnosis Health generation is going to improve the situation regardless; If choose to treat as Lyme (or X infection), then go for it, don t try just a little, or you won t get a clear response; Use muscle testing; electro-dermal screening; Trust your patients intuition; Trust your intuition.

26 Treatment & Prevention of Acute Lyme Disease Bloodwork is not useful until 4-8 weeks post-infection. If LD is suspected, treatment should begin immediately. Facilitating effective treatment at the acute stage, and even preventing a possible infection post-tick-bite is paramount. The combination of both Western and natural medicine for acute Lyme is best.
