1 Organized by CHAMPS Fund at the Department of Family Medicine at AUBMC, in collaboration with the Lebanese Society of Cardiology, the Division of Cardiology at AUBMC, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at AUBMC and the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health First International Symposium on Sports Cardiology and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Overview Saturday October 20, 2018 Hisham Jaroudi Auditorium, Hariri School of Nursing American University of Beirut The symposium will highlight the burden of sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes and discuss its underlying causes, namely cardiovascular diseases, and the different modalities of treatment. International recommendations regarding cardiac screening in young athletes will be discussed as well as the interpretation of electrocardiogram in this special population. Recommendations for return to sports with implantable cardioverter defibrillators will be covered. The symposium will discuss the outcomes of sudden cardiac arrest in Lebanon and the recommendations to prevent sudden cardiac death through prevention namely the role of bystanders and the use of automated external defibrillators in public places. Objectives At the end of this activity, participants will be able to: Discuss the burden of sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes. List the international recommendations for cardiac screening in young athletes. Identify cardiovascular diseases that lead to sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes. Discuss the diagnosis, management and genetics of cardiovascular diseases in young athletes. Interpret electrocardiogram (EKG) findings in athletes. Discuss the guidelines for performing sports in athletes with implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Discuss the outcomes of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest in Lebanon. Discuss the role of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in preventing sudden cardiac death.
2 Target Audience This activity is designed for Cardiologists, Family Medicine specialists, Pediatricians, General Practitioners, Sports Medicine Specialists, Emergency Medicine Specialists, doctors from other specialties interested in sports cardiology and prevention of sudden cardiac arrest, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Public Health Specialists, Residents, Fellows, Medical students, Nursing students, public health students, Paramedics, and Sports Professionals. This activity also targets attendees from the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Lebanese Ministry of Youth and Sports, Lebanese Order of Physicians, and the Order of Nurses in Lebanon. Accreditation This live activity is pending credits from the Lebanese Order of Physicians. Each attendee should claim only those credits based on actual time spent in the activity.
