2 Learning objectives To retrospectively review imaging findings and clinical implications of idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery to improve understanding and recognition of this rare entity. Background Definition of idiopathic pulmonary artery dilatation Focal dilatation of the main pulmonary art. with or without dilatation of the right and left pulmonary art. (main PA >29mm, right interlobar art. >17mm on CT) Without an identifiable cause - Exclusion of other causes of a dilated pulmonary artery : pulmonary hypertension, tricuspid valve disease, pulmonary valve stenosis, congenital heart diseases, syphilis, Behcet's disease, atherosclerosis, trauma, connective tissue etc. Rare anomaly with poorly understood pathogenesis Materials Six patients with idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery were included after searching the radiology database at a large teaching hospital. The radiograph, MDCT images and clinical manifestation were reviewed. 6 Conclusion Radiologists should be aware of the definition and imaging findings of the idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery. Idiopathic pulmonary artery dilatation should be included in the differential diagnosis when prominent pulmonary conus or left hilar bulging opacity without any other findings of pulmonary hypertension is present on chest radiograph.
