2 Medicinal Plants About 80% of all the world s medicines are originally derived from plant sources especially those found in tropical regions Large number of plant-derived medicines and other useful compounds have yet to be discovered 15% of the known angiosperm species have been studied World Health Organization (WHO) approximately US $14 billion per year 15 to 25% annually more than US $5 trillion in 2050
