4 Brief About SPYM SPYM is working in the area of substance use disorders since last 30 years More than 3500 children have been treated for their substance use disorder. This has been achieved through the following projects: Since 2010 we have set up and are running successfully India s only Residential Drug De-Addiction cum Rehabilitation Centre for Children in Conflict with Law(CCL). Since 2014 SPYM is also running another Drug Rehabilitation Centre for Children in need of care & protection.

5 Brief About SPYM Four Outreach & Drop-in Centers for street children, runaway children & children in begging Drug De-Addiction Cum Rehabilitation Centre for Homeless Families of children served at various centers.

6 Brief About SPYM Peer Lead Intervention Program at Largest Prison of Asia, Tihar Jail, Delhi and in Todapur Community among vulnerable adolescents. SPYM is running a de-addiction cum rehabilitation center for women and girl child which is also one of its kind in India RRTC

7 Substance abuse Problem in India, specific to children Children are increasingly the victims of use within their families and communities and engage in peddling for supporting their daily drug use General Perception is that children between age group are victim of SUD but instances of addiction are observed in children aged 5-8 years as well Comparison to previous years child addiction among school children is on rise. Children are getting hooked to alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, heroin, inhalants and injectable substances as well.(unodc global Drug Report 2018)

8 Substance abuse Problem in India, specific to children In India 20 million children a year and nearly 55,000 children a day are drawn into tobacco addition.(un Report) There is an increase of 143% between in the Juvenile crime in India. (NCB, Report 2012) 38% of the children we have treated reported that they need more than Rs. 5000/ day for their drugs. (SPYM Treatment center Data) Peer pressure is the major reason for about 85% of children getting drawn into drugs.(spym Treatment center Data)

9 Substance abuse Problem in India, specific to children 70% of children drop-out from school at primary level due to addiction. (SPYM data) 41% children admitted were opium (Heroin) users (SPYM Data) 64% children use crime as a means of earning for their drugs. (SPYM Data) 70% of children belongs to poor socio-economic background. (SPYM Data)

Singh Badnore along with Director General, Shri Sanjay Beniwal, of Chandigarh Police, felicitated the efforts of SPYM, for its contribution in the area of Prevention and Treatment of substance use Chairperson, SPYM received the National Youth Award by the Hon ble Union Minister Shri Anant Kumar on the occasion of National Youth Day.
