COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE Description: This committee helps promote JDRF and its events through various marketing, communications and public relations vehicles. Time Commitment: This committee meets monthly, with meetings typically occurring via conference call. In addition to committee meetings, members will spend approximately 1-2 hours monthly in working on the execution of the marketing and communications initiatives. Duties: Each committee member will be paired with a JDRF committee (e.g. gala, walk, etc.) to work with that committee and its staff partner to develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy for that event or program. Other duties may include helping to secure local celebrity event emcees, writing press releases and social media posts, etc. Skills Needed: Desired qualifications include a background in marketing, communications and/or public relations. It is especially beneficial for members to have media connections in the Cincinnati and/or Dayton markets. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Communications committee chair as well as the chair of the committee with which they are paired. The staff partner is the chapter Marketing & Communications Specialist. CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Description: The role of this committee is to help open doors for JDRF in order to procure corporate sponsorships for its various programs, as well as corporate walk chairs and gala honorees. Time Commitment This committee is unique because full committee meetings rarely occur. Rather, JDRF program staff leads communicate directly with members, typically via or telephone, on a one-on-one basis. Therefore, the overall annual time commitment is minimal. Duties: Members of this committee review corporate prospect lists to help identify where they have connections. They then use those connections to help get JDRF in the door and, when appropriate, join staff in the meetings once they are secured. Leading up to major events, committee members might also be asked to sign letters (and add personalized notes) sent to their connections as a solicitation of sponsorship, as well as follow up with their contacts via telephone. If a member does not feel comfortable making the ask, that is okay since the JDRF staff partner can handle that component. Skills Needed: Members of this committee need to have a strong personal and/or professional network in the Cincinnati, Dayton and/or northern Kentucky communities. Partnerships: Committee members partner closely with the chapter Executive Director and various program staff.

EMERGING LEADERS COMMITTEE Description: Members are asked to help identify, recruit and cultivate talented young professionals and new potential JDRF leaders in order to ensure appropriate succession of chapter volunteer leadership. Time Commitment: This committee meets approximately 3-4 times per year, with meetings lasting 1-2 hours. Meetings either in person or via telephone. In addition to meetings, committee members typically spend 1-3 hours monthly in completing tasks to make ELC events successful. Duties: Committee members are asked to help identify new ways to engage new leaders with the chapter and to help develop and execute these programs. Members are also asked to lead the annual fall benefit and other adult social and networking events. In doing so, tasks include event planning, sponsorship, promotion, etc. Skills Needed: Members of this committee should be willing to engage in networking, social and fundraising activities. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Emerging Leaders chair and the chapter Marketing & Communications Specialist. STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE Description: The role of this committee is to ensure chapter progress towards completion of chapter goals and strategies, and to help guide chapter leadership in the annual development of the strategic plan. Time Commitment: There are four annual strategic plan progress reports. Duties: Committee members participate in the annual planning session, as well as review the chapter s strategic plan on a quarterly basis. This includes evaluation of progress toward the goals and identification of any current or projected shortfalls or areas of concern. Members may also make suggestions of modifications to the plan. The committee will also develop succinct summaries of strategic plan progress to communicate to the board. Skills Needed: This committee requires analytic thinking and the ability to evaluate and quantify goals. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Strategic Planning Committee Chair and chapter Executive Director. GALA COMMITTEE Description: Members of this committee help plan and execute the fundraising and event planning functions for the annual Cincinnatian of the Year Gala or Dayton Summer Soiree. Time Commitment: This committee is very active between the months of January and May with full committee meetings held at least once per month during this period. In addition to these meetings, subcommittees also have their own meetings, which can occur as frequently as 1-2 times per week. Duties: Committee members are asked to help conduct event planning and fundraising activities to ensure the success of the gala. Members are asked to serve on specific subcommittee, such as guest experience, auction, Fund a Cure, and corporate development. Skills Needed: Because there are a variety of gala subcommittees, desired skillsets and tasks vary and include things such as fundraising, graphic or interior design, creativity, ability to procure auction items, social and/or corporate connections, invitation assembly, decorating, etc. Partnerships: Members work with the overall gala chair, their subcommittee chair, and the staff Gala Manager.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS COMMITTEE Description: This committee is tasked with promoting grassroots advocacy for JDRF. Time Commitment: Members of this committee will spend approximately minutes monthly in making advocacy calls. They also attend Promise Meetings, each of which take about one hour and occur no more than once per year per Congressperson/Representative. Duties: Committee members recruit and cultivate new advocates who are willing to contact their local government representative to ask for their support of JDRF and its initiatives. Members also help coordinate, and attend when appropriate, the Promise to Remember Me Campaign. Skills Needed: Committee members need to have a very basic knowledge of government relations work, lobbying or legislative advocacy as well as a willingness to meet and recruit new advocates. They also have to be willing to meet with chapter-area legislators. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Government Relations committee chair and their staff partner, which is the chapter Development Coordinator responsible for Government Relations. LEADERSHIP GIVING COMMITTEE Description: The role of the leadership giving committee is to help open doors for JDRF in order to secure large chapter gifts, either directly or through a program such as walk, ride or gala. This committee also helps with solicitation of planned gifts. Time Commitment: This committee typically meets at the JDRF office about 6 times per year, with each meeting lasting 1-2 hours. In addition, committee members may be asked to attend the annual research update in the spring and occasional one-one-one meetings with current or prospective donors. Duties: Members of this committee review donor prospect lists to help identify where they have connections. Skills Needed: Members of this committee need to be well connected in the Cincinnati, Dayton and/or northern Kentucky communities, and have an awareness of the JDRF donor population. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Leadership Giving committee chair and their staff partner is the chapter Executive Director.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE Description: The role of the nominating committee is to select and vet qualified individuals to develop the annual slate of prospective members of the JDRF Southwest Ohio board of directors. Time Commitment: This committee meets 2-3 times between the months of January and May, with meetings lasting approximately hours. In addition to the meetings, committee members may occasionally need to conduct 30 minute interviews (in person or over the phone) with potential new board members. Duties: Committee members help identify and cultivate board member prospects who are doers, door-openers and/or donors. On occasion, a committee member might be asked to interview a board prospect. During committee meetings, nominees are evaluated and the committee votes to determine the slate of prospective new board members. Skills Needed: Members of this committee need to have knowledge of the JDRF board and its committees, and have connections such that they can recruit talented prospects. Partnerships: This committee is selected by the chapter Executive Director and chair of the nominating committee and members partner closely with both throughout the nominating process. OUTREACH COMMITTEE Description: This committee develops and implements outreach initiatives on behalf of the chapter. These events serve to educate the community about T1D and JDRF and to also identify new constituents who will hopefully become involved with the chapter. Time Commitment: This committee meets monthly, with meetings sometimes occurring in person and other times over the phone. In addition to committee meetings, members will spend approximately 1-2 hours monthly in working independently on various outreach tasks. The time commitment of members will also ramp up during the week prior to each Outreach event. Duties: Committee members help plan and execute recurring events such as Boofest, National Diabetes Awareness Month programs, Holiday Hoopla, Back to School programs and the T1D Expo. In doing so, tasks include functions such as planning the event itself, securing in-kind donations and promoting attendance. The committee also oversees the Youth Ambassador, mentoring and Bag of Hope programs. The mentoring program matches newly diagnosed T1D families with a mentor to help guide them through the process of learning to live with diabetes. Members are expected to attend outreach events and maintain communication with local families Skills Needed: Outreach committee members need to have an outgoing personality and a willingness to meet new people and serve as ambassadors for JDRF. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Outreach committee chair and their staff partner is the chapter Development Coordinator responsible for Outreach.

RIDE COMMITTEE Description: Members of this committee ensure the success of the chapter s Ride to Cure Diabetes program through the recruitment of new ride participants, cultivation of existing riders and revenue generation. Time Commitment: This committee meets approximately 4 times per year as a full committee and monthly for the executive committee. Subcommittee meetings are also held as needed. In addition to meetings, members spend 5-10 hours monthly on ride recruitment activities, training rides, and planning for destination rides. There are several ride events throughout the year that members are expected to attend. Duties: Committee members are asked to help recruit new ride participants and help integrate them into the program. Members help riders with their fundraising and training efforts. Skills Needed: Experience with the JDRF ride program. Partnerships: Committee members work with the Ride chair and the chapter Development Coordinator responsible for Ride. FINANCE COMMITTEE Description: The finance committee is in place to ensure the fiscal health of the JDRF Southwest Ohio chapter and to verify compliance with national set audit standards. Time Commitment: This committee does not hold meetings. Rather, committee members help perform quarterly internal chapter audits, each of which takes about two hours. Duties: Members assist in financial report preparation and review. The primary task of the committee is to rotate in completing quarterly internal audits, as well as one final preparatory self-audit prior to the annual audit conducted by JDRF national. Self-audits include tasks such as verifying deposits, confirming that donor acknowledgement letters, etc. Skills Needed: Members of this committee need to have an accounting/finance background and attention to detail. Partnerships: Members work with the chapter s Treasurer and their staff partner is the chapter Office Manager. RUN COMMITTEE Description: Members of the Run Committee ensure the success of the chapter s Run to Cure Diabetes program through the cultivation and recruitment of runners. Time Commitment: This committee meets approximately 2-4 times per year. Members also spend some time recruiting new members. Their job is to coach the captains in their portfolio to encourage their fundraising activity and attendance at the walk (including pre and postwalk events). Communications occur over the phone and via . Skills Needed: Because this position requires a great deal of and telephone interactions, members of the committee need to be effective communicators with an outgoing personality.
