1 GFWC JUNIOR WOMAN S CLUB OF WESTMINSTER President s Report May Newsletter Here we are at the end of another successful club year. Carol and I wish to thank all club members for their support. The club has a lot to be proud of, we have raised a lot of money and now it is time for the Beneficiary Committee to meet and decide how to disburse these funds. We would also like to thank all the club members who attended Junior Day. If you attended one of the highlights was the Wizard of Westminster skit the club preformed. I think Carol may have a future in screenwriting! Congratulations Rebecca Wagman on being installed as Director of Junior Clubs and Emily Rosenthal as Secretary of Junior Clubs. A big shout out for our amazing club members Leslie Krebs-White for winning Outstanding Maryland Junior and Jamie Miller for Rookie Of The Year. These are great accomplishments for our club. The club also won the following awards: GFWC Advancement Area - Membership GFWC Community Service Program International Outreach GFWC Signature Project - Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention GFWC Advancement Area Communications and Public Relations GFWC Community Service Program Arts GFWC Junior Special Project Advocates for Children GFWC Advancement Area Legislation and Public Policy GFWC Advancement Area Leadership GFWC Community Service Program Public Issues We have one more congratulations and that goes to Leslie Krebs-White for organizing the showing of the very powerful movie Escalation by the One Love Foundation. Thank you to all the members who helped at this event. Carol and I look forward seeing you all at the May Dinner on Thursday May 12 th at 6:30pm held at Blue Bistro in Westminster. The club will be discussing and voting on the amended club by-laws followed by an evening of celebration and installation of our new board for Club Year Please bring a nonperishable food item for the DVSH. The list of needed items is attached to the . Box Tops for Educations Spring Cleaning! Remember to bring all your Box Tops for Education to the May Dinner. Susan Krichten will be collecting for Robert Moton Elementary and Jamie Miller will be

2 collecting for Taneytown Elementary School. Both schools are in need of our help. GFWC International Convention in Baltimore A Once in a Lifetime Experience & Maryland needs your help! GFWC International Convention is in Baltimore and our own Babs Condon is the International President for this meeting! Sunday Night is Maryland State Night and we need one Maryland clubwoman for each table to serve as a hostess. That means we need up to 80 MD clubwomen! In our budget this year, there is money to help offset the cost! If you are only coming for Saturday (crab feast) or Sunday Maryland State Night, you won't have to pay the normal one-day registration fee of $75.00 or the whole convention registration fee of $ The Westminster Juniors have set aside money in this year's budget for you to be able help us at convention. If you come down for just Maryland Night, that banquet is $ We have enough money for 13 clubwomen to come to that banquet for FREE. Your only cost would be gas and parking! If more than 13 are able to attend, then we will divide up the money to help as many as possible. PLEASE let Tricia & Carol know as soon as possible if you can be a hostess! You will need to register online as a Saturday- Sunday GFWC attendee and register for the meal. Please pay and submit your voucher to Susan along with a copy of your registration and meal. All vouchers are due to Susan ASAP. We'd love it if you could stay for more of the convention than just one day. It is an amazing experience! Updated Roster Attached is the updated Roster! 3 At our March meeting, Becca created a Limerick in honor of St. Patrick's Day! Here is our GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Westminster Limerick! There once was a club of young women, who wanted to serve others by givin'. They met on Thursday nights and their bonds became tight. Helping others became their great mission. Maryland Convention We had a wonderful time in Annapolis for our annual Maryland Convention. I was so excited to see so many members in attendance from our club! Congratulations to Leslie Krebs-White for being awarded Outstanding Junior Clubwoman and Jamie Miller for being awarded Rookie of the Year! You both deserve this great honor for your dedication to GFWC! I appreciate the lovely reception the club provided after Junior Day and for the beautiful bouquet of flowers I received at my installation Sunday Night! 4 Nation s First Monument for Women s Equality Dedicated May it stand for years and years to come, telling of the work that the women of the United States have accomplished; the example we have given foreign nations; and our determination that they shall be as ourselves free citizens, recognized as the equals of men. Alva Belmont, former president of the National Woman's Party, January 4, 1931 On Tuesday, President Obama designated the Sewell-Belmont House and Museum a historical monument to women s equality. The house, which was the headquarters of the National Woman s Party, will be renamed as the Belmont- Paul Women s Equality National Monument in honor of Alva Belmont and Alice Paul. This is the first monument in the United States dedicated to women s fight for equality. GFWC International President Babs J.
