Relay For Life is an opportunity for individuals and entire community to make a difference in the fight against cancer! This event reinforces the message that today more and more people are surviving cancer. Creating a Better World for Cancer Survivors in Spalding County Because of the support of individuals and organizations like you, the American Cancer Society is creating a better world for cancer survivors right here in our community Donations made in helped make the following possible in Spalding County: 94 cancer patients in Spalding County received assistance from the American Cancer Society. 4 cancer patients received 2 FREE wigs each. 11 cancer patients attended a Look Good Feel better session. 6 breast cancer patients were helped through the Reach to Recovery program. 62 individuals called ACS needing cancer information for themselves or loved ones. 13 cancer patients were assisted with transportation to and from their cancer treatments. 8 cancer patients were helped by a oncology social worker. 2 cancer patients was helped by a dietitian on call. 6 cancer patients and 6 caregivers stayed at Hope Lodge for FREE for a total of 136 nights. 38 cancer patients were referred to local resources for help. 905 people participated in the 2012 RFL of Spalding County raising more than $141,000. Relay For Life is not an event...it is an experience! 6 Why Should My Company Form a Team? Relay For Life fosters team-building among your employees. It is a great avenue for your staff to come together to work towards a common goal. It promotes a happy work environment and employees who participate on a company team tend to enjoy their everyday work more. How Do We Get Started? Forming a team is easy to do. Here are the first steps to getting your team organized. 1. The Relay of Spalding County will be held on Friday, May 3rd - Saturday, May 4th, 2012 at the Spalding High School Track. 2. Identify a team leader - someone in your company with a passion for the cause and great motivational and organizational skills. 3. Recruit team members - encourage your employees to participate and even provide incentives for joining the team. 4. Register - You can register online by logging onto or by filling out paper registration forms. 5. Make a fundraising plan - set a fundraising goal with your team then decide how you will raise the money (bake sale, dress down days, company matching gifts, etc.). 6. Be Creative & Have Fun!!!! - you want your employees to enjoy the experience while building that team relationship. Form a Team Relay For Life is Good for Business. Participating in Relay For Life positions your company as a leader in the community. Whether you participate as a Corporate Sponsor, an In-Kind Donor, or you Form a Team, the community and your patrons will take notice of your philanthropic leadership and charitable outreach. They will be more likely to patronize your business and recommend your company to their friends and family. Plus, any contributions you make are tax-deductible (as allowed by law) and just makes you feel good! We ve Formed a Team, Now What Do We Do? All Relays have monthly Team Meetings to provide additional support and information to teams (especially new teams). Come to the meetings to find out the specifics of your event and pick up fundraising materials. Create your team and personal online fundraising pages. When you register online, or even if you register via paper forms, you will have your own personal online websites to manage your team. Spread the word of the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life. We have many great programs & services and we need people to take advantage of them. Also, invite people to participate in the free Survivor/Caregiver reception at the event. Determine team member responsibilities...who is in charge of pitching the tent, coming up with the team theme, and putting together the next fundraiser. Don t be afraid to Make the Ask.
