1 Ancient Order of Hibernians 151 Watertown Street PO Box RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED SEPTEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER!
2 Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 14 PO Box Joe McCusker SEPTEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER AOH President s Message I trust everyone had a safe and happy summer season, we couldn t have asked for better weather. While most folks were away we had plenty to keep us occupied with the Summer Food Tasting, the Division Scholarship Golf Outing, the National Convention, and of course the highlight of the summer break was the Omagh Thunder Basketball Team visit. The boys from Omagh had a great time during their stay in the Boston area thanks in large part to the dedication and support from the membership of Division 14. Please read the letter enclosed. We are going to be jumping into it right away coming back from the summer break and will be looking for your support. The Club Inc. will be having a fundraiser on September 26 th and the Division will be doing the same on October 24 th. With all that is going on in our busy lives please consider supporting the Club and Division any way you can. Please reference the attachments relative to such. Well the boys of summer have let us down this year but as they say There s always next year. Calendar autumn doesn t begin until September 22 nd but we are already in full swing with football and ice hockey is right around the corner. This is the time of year when we all come together to cheer for the local teams and enjoy the company of friendship. As we enjoy our times together please be mindful that everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind and pray not just for yourself but others as well. Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, Joseph P. McCusker Jr. 2
3 LAOH President s Message Our first meeting of the season was held on Monday, Sept. 8 th. Mass was celebrated by Fr, Michael McNamara of Scituate, MA. We are very grateful he was able to come. This was the largest turnout of members we have had in years for a monthly meeting. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 th, due to the Columbus Holiday. It will be our Pro Life Shower. Their greatest need at this time is boys clothing, 2T, 3T, and 4T. Also consider purchasing baby bottles and diaper ointment. A Member of the Pro Life Office will come and speak to us and collect our donation. If you cannot attend or shop please consider a monetary donation payable to Pro Life, Catholic Charities. That can be sent to LAOH, Div. 14, 151 Watertown St., There are seventeen members that HAVE NOT PAID dues this year. These reminders in the newsletters do not seem to bring response. Peggy Little will be sending out notices. We all have busy lives and things slip up. Please send your dues. Our only scheduled Fund Raiser is the Ham-O-Rama in the spring. Ann Stevens did come forth to chair a Flea Market but the only Saturday available is Thanksgiving Weekend. Many folks are away or busy with family that weekend. It appears to be better to plan for the Spring. If you have any suggestions or ideas for a Fund Raiser please call any of the Board Members with that information. On Sunday Nov. 9 th there will be a State Wide Joint AOH/LAOH Mass at St John s Church in Peabody. Mass will be at 10:00 AM and a brunch to follow at the AOH Peabody Hall. Tickets for the brunch will be $ Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, Mary B. Ryan, President 3

9 This past year we did not receive a Customer Choice Award from Watertown Savings Bank. We fell short because the competition for these monetary awards has become tougher and quite frankly we just didn t advertise it enough to the membership. Please find below all the information you will need to vote for the AOH Division 14 Watertown to receive an award for calendar year If you are receiving this newsletter via please follow the link below. If you are a WSB Bank Customer and cannot vote on-line please make sure to place your vote next time you go to the Bank. Just ask someone at the Bank and I m sure they will help you with your vote. Each year Watertown Savings Bank sets aside $75,000 to distribute to non-profits through the Customer Choice Awards. The program provides customers with the opportunity to influence how the bank distributes funds in the community. Deadline to vote in 2014 is December 31. Please follow this link 9
