From the President Dave Tucker President Hello Lions, Thanks to everyone who attended the installation dinner on June 27. Part of the program at the dinner was the induction of a new member, Marcie Wright. Welcome, Marcie. We look forward to getting you involved in our club activities (she already signed up for the FISH Food Bank collection on July 7). Also at the dinner Sharon Kirry was named Lion of the Year. She wears many hats and does each task happily and with enthusiasm. Thanks to every one of you for your continuing service to our community. Our biggest goal for is increased membership. I would like to end the year with at least 5 new members. Lions Bill McMonnies and Al Aosved are co chairs of the membership committee this year but we all need to be involved in the process. JUST ASK! Our other goal for the year is to become more involved in the Maritime Festival. We need to think of some kind of a fundraiser or other activity to be more visible in this community celebration. Please let me know if you have any ideas. The Applebee s flapjacks fund raiser resulted in over $700 profit all of which will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Fund for Mary Bridge Children s Foundation. Thanks to everyone who participated in this project. There are 8 tickets left for the Tacoma Rainiers game on August 7. The game starts at 11:35 AM. Tickets are $13 which includes a hot dog, chips and a bottle of water. Parking is $10 so carpooling would be a good idea. Contact me if you want to attend. 3 Let s have a good showing at the Banner Passing this year at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Our club will be presenting a big check (from funds earned at Applebee s) for Childhood Cancer to be given to Mary Bridge Foundation. It would be great to have a bunch of us in the picture! Make a reservation prior to July 18th. See below. From District Service Chair, Patti Lovell: District 19C Lions. You have raised $418,040 and have donated $201,244 this Lion year. We have worked 62,882 hours serving 635,297 people. And that was with one month to go! Membership: Just Ask is the motto for membership recruiting. The strength of our membership and the health of our club depends on constantly receiving new members with fresh ideas, energy and willingness to help. We Serve is the motto for Lions. Lawn Chairs, swim attire, beach shoes, sunscreen, coolers. Also if you can bring serving utensils for your dishes it will be appreciated. We will provide: HAMBURGERS, BUNS and CONDIMENTS, plates, napkins, & utensils. Bring your own drinks. Directions: Drive to the middle of downtown Shelton and find the big train Tollie. You are now on Railroad Ave. Proceed west on Railroad through town which becomes Dayton-Matlock road. Go approximately 10 miles to Lake Nahwatzel. Drive just past the lake and make a right on W. Lake Nahwatzel Drive. (not to be confused with Nahwatzel Beach Drive on the east end of the lake). Go about1/2 mile and turn right at our driveway. Look for the round sawblade hanging with our name. Carpooling is recommended as there is limited parking.
