2 Welcome Back! It is bitter sweet that the summer has ended but I must admit I have been missing seeing all the exciting things that happen at DHS. To the new students and parents, I extend a warm welcome in name of the PTSA. We have created this Newsletter to help you to be informed and reminded about important dates along with messages from faculty. This is YOUR Newsletter and I am happy to hear your suggestions to make it better. Please be advised that it is almost impossible to make the Newsletter a comprehensive resource. You should always check the websites and follow the social media links listed bellow for more info. Like I said there are many exciting things happening at DHS and we will try to cover it all! The Newsletter is distributed on the last week of the month via . If you don t receive it please let the school office know as they may not have your . Let the year begin! 3 JOIN THE KEY CLUB! Dulaney Key Club would love for new members to join us for the new school year! Key club is the oldest and largest volunteer organization for high school students, and it provides students with opportunities to serve their communities, build character, and develop leadership. The various projects Dulaney Key Club is involved with include elementary school tutoring, in-school service (board washing, office help), fundraisers for select charities, and local community volunteering (soup kitchens, school festivals, charity events and walks, athletic events, etc.). Members have the opportunity to sign up for events of their choosing or even organize events themselves. Last school year, DHS Key Club was recognized by Maryland Public Television as the Volunteer of the year and also won various awards for their service projects at the District Convention consisting of clubs from Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. If you are looking for a fun and rewarding way to receive service hours or are interested in leadership opportunities, please join us for our meetings in the Satellite Cafeteria every Thursday after school, beginning September 14th! Dues are $15 until October 15th and $20 afterwards. It s Academic! The DHS It's Academic team will tape its first round match on Saturday, September 23 at 10 AM at WJZ studios in Baltimore. All are welcome to attend and cheer the team on. We are playing Bel Air and C. Milton Wright High Schools.
4 A Word from School Counseling Welcome back! We have a few important dates for seniors: September 19: Naviance Night for Parents at 7:00 PM in the Satellite Café. Come and learn about how to assist your senior in the college application process using Naviance (our College and Career Planning program) The week of September 18th counselors will be visiting all English 12 classrooms to give a presentation on an overview of the college application process. We will then be available to meet with seniors as need be to complete this exciting process. Thinking about taking the October SAT? Register on collegeboard.org by the September 8th deadline. For the October 28th ACT, register by September 22nd. Seniors: Please remember to check your Naviance homepage for an easy to follow step by step list of instructions on the application process. Share the information on this page with other parents and your kids. Senior BBQ will be held on Wednesday 9/20 from 2:30-4:30PM at the Rocks. Senior BBQ t- shirts will be on sale beginning the first day of school up to 9/20 and will be sold for $20. You will need a t-shirt to participate, please see Mrs. Sofinowski for any concerns. Senior Breakfast will be held on Wednesday 10/11. More information will be available soon. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Sofinowski (asofinowski@bcps.org) & Mr. Lowe (wlowe@bcps.org) with any questions about the BBQ and the Breakfast. To all of our incoming 9th graders, we look forward to meeting you. To 10th and 11th graders, we look forward to seeing you again!
