4 The Memphis Black Arts Alliance currently offers Four (4) very distinct multifaceted programs. A year-round Academy that encompasses private educational opportunity for artists of every age; workshops, master classes, and more in multi-disciplinary arts. The Arts Academy also offers an After-School Program that combines music, communication, orchestration, creative writing, and short form documentary film-making! The Academy offers two 4 week Summer Camps that provides performance opportunity in a showcase that is marketed to the public. Most of the Academy classes are held at the FireHouse Community Arts Center in Memphis, TN. Talented young people ages 7 27 have the opportunity to participate with Souls-A-F!RE through audition process. This amazing performance entity performs through out the Greater Memphis area singing, dancing, acting, and performing original music that they create as well as participate as a Youth Action Council member! Held every other month on the 3rd Friday, and hosted by MBAA s own Jesse Dunlap and Friends, this open mic experience is an intergenerational opportunity for creatives to come together and share their creations. Poets, Singers, Dancers, Musicians, etc. are all welcomed at Voices-A-F!RE! This program gives voice and provides creative opportunity to those that would otherwise refrain. Offered on the last Sunday of every month, Cequita Monique and the Prime Cut Trio steers us to the land of Smooth Jazz. But that s not all; they then feature a special guest artists and allow them to croon us further up the road. To top it all off, local artist are invited to come and participate in the musical celebration as they BYOI (bring your own instrument) and join in with the festivities. Jazz-A-F!RE is all that!
