2 Welcome to GroceryAid Where Your Money Goes Thank you for choosing to support GroceryAid. Without the help of industry colleagues such as yourself, we would find it impossible to reach out and provide help to the thousands of current and former members of the grocery industry who rely on our support. GroceryAid offers help and support to those who have worked, or are working, in the UK grocery trade for 10 years or more and are struggling to get by. The breadth and depth of support offered ranges from an annual annuity to a crisis grant, essential white goods and the Welfare Helpline. The Helpline is free for everyone in the industry from the largest factory, right through the supply chain and down to the smallest of stores. 3 Inspirational Ideas Holding an awareness event for GroceryAid will help us to reach out to potential beneficiaries and supporters within your company. H J HEINZ The team at H J Heinz integrated awareness of GroceryAid into their graduate training programme and held an awareness week at their Hayes Park and Kitt Green sites. This included a Wii Sports Competition, auction, charity presentation, car wash and a tea trolley service. The graduates promoted the awareness week internally using their company intranet site and raised over 1,300. We have been a long term supporter of GroceryAid and our recent fundraising efforts have included Awareness Weeks in Hayes Park and Kitt Green; the first time we have taken the charity awareness programme to a factory site proving to be a great success. The graduates and students did a tremendous job raising awareness and money at the same time. Alex Vellasco, H J Heinz SILVERSPOON The team at Silverspoon displayed branded material at their head office and carried out fundraising activities during their monthly forum, such as games, bake sales and competitions which raised 2,000. UNITED BISCUITS The graduate team at United Biscuits worked together to organise a day of activities at their head office including a bake sale, raffle and auction. They used internal communications to promote their awareness day and raised 662. We re really pleased with the amount of effort United Biscuits graduates put into this day. Their level of enthusiasm was infectious and meant that a lot of people became interested in the work of GroceryAid. Lisa Warner, United Biscuits Pernod Ricard Pernod Ricard wanted a fun way to raise awareness of the charity which would compliment their Jameson brand. They organised a quiz night which included a Jameson label design round, with the winning team competing in the GroceryAid President s Quiz Night. They also arranged a product sale which raised MARKS & SPENCER The team at Marks & Spencer raised awareness by placing branded material around their head office and displaying our logo on their website. Unilever Unilever held a number of awareness activities at their head office including; a screen wash competition, car wash, barbeque and a leaflet desk drop. They used social networking sites and chocolate cookies to promote their events and raised over 300.

If you re stuck for inspiration use the Awareness A-Z to help. Advertise A poster template is included in this pack. To help spread the word about your awareness activity, just fill in the details, copy it and display around your workplace. An e-version is also available; please contact us for a copy. You are free to design your own poster but please adhere to our charity regulations and remember to publicise that your event is in aid of GroceryAid. Use the Web Share news of your event over the internet using s, your company intranet and social networking sites. GroceryAid has Facebook and Twitter pages, just linking to our pages can raise awareness for the charity. Find us on Follow us on PRomotional Material An order form is included in this pack. Just decide what you need, how much, and send it back to us at least two weeks before your event. Need Sponsors? If your event has fundraising potential please use the sponsorship form in this pack to help raise funds and encourage your supporters to donate with gift aid, or use online fundraising websites such as Donate the Funds Please collect the money you have raised and pay it direct to us as soon as you can.

5 Things to Remember How to Donate Like all UK charities, we must adhere to a set of rules laid out by the Charity Commission, please consider the below when planning your event. Once your awareness event is completed please collect in any money you have raised and send it in to us as soon as you can. Charity Numbers Any printed publication which bears our name and/or logo must have our registered charity number clearly displayed on it: GroceryAid is the trading name of the National Grocers Benevolent Fund. A company limited by guarantee, registered in England & Wales No Insurance If you feel you may need insurance for your activity please bear in mind this is something that will need to be organised between yourself and your company. 6 People We ve Helped Thank You It was a really tough time, I received no compensation whatsoever for the accident and struggled to make ends meet.the money from the charity is greatly appreciated and has made a real difference to me. When the boys were small it meant that I could afford to buy them things like new shoes. We are so grateful for your support and look forward to hearing all about your awareness activity. JOAN s* Story Joan was 46 when she was involved in a serious car accident that broke her neck and back and left her with quadriplegia. Prior to the accident she owned and managed a greengrocers and florists shop. However, the accident meant that she was wheelchair bound, had to give up work and was reduced to living on benefits. Only a year after the accident her husband left her, and Joan was left on her own to bring up her two young sons, who were aged six and nine. She came across the charity while she was looking into funding to pay for a carer and applied to the fund for assistance. Following a visit from a member of our trained welfare team, we provided a mobility scooter and also regular quarterly payments. When my wife left me, I became a single parent with three children to raise. The emotional and financial pressure this brought led to me suffering a breakdown. Alan s* Story Alan worked as a successful manager of a supermarket until his wife left him and their three young children. Alan was forced to reduce his hours to care for them and as a result lost his job. He struggled to cope as a single parent and suffered from depression, his life quickly spiralled out of control and he was left with very little money to care for his family. Alan was referred to the charity by the National DebtLine and has since received quarterly payments as well as extra money for the children. He is slowly getting back on track and hopes to return to work in the near future. *To protect their identities, these names have been changed but their stories are real.
