1 MISSION STATEMENT To provide multiple day oasis retreats for terminally ill adults and their families while encouraging improving relationships through communication and to create generational family legacy through memory making activities. OBJECTIVES STATEMENT Our goal is to help families overcome the inability to communicate the things that are on their hearts and to provide them with photos and voice recordings to help them through their upcoming grief. Through the sharing of their hearts, we seek to help the patient and family members be more at peace when the time comes for the patient to pass on. VISION STATEMENT To see family members connect deeply with one another regularly and not wait until they are dying to share their heart, their wisdom, their hopes and dreams with those they love; for family members to pass the legacy of communication to the next generations thus positively change the future culture of communication and the simple expression of love toward all people.

2 Dear Madam or Sir, Simply Love is a needs-based program that will bring a terminally ill patient and seven of their family members, who would not otherwise have the means, come together from across the country to a beach or mountain location which is chosen by the terminally ill patient. The family will spend seven days at the location making memories by going on excursions and by talking about the things that are on their hearts, sharing family history, recipes, memories, and playing games that promote communication all while being photographed, or videotaped by our staff or a drone. We will also spend time one on one with the patient to make an audio recorded message for their family. Each family member will receive copies of the photographs, videos and audio recording on a flash drive. The patient will receive copies of the photographs and videos. Simply Love will provide all transportation, lodging, three meals a day, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages for the whole family. Patient condition permitting, two excursions will also be provided. Information will be provided on furthering their communication skills so once they return home, they can use these skills to improve other family relationships, friendships, and even at their place of employment. All of this is provided at no cost to the patient and qualifying family members. 3 The Story Behind Simply Love Have you or someone you ve known lost a loved one and regretted not having had more time with them or regretted not speaking to them from the heart before they passed on? I wish everyone could have the kind of experience I had with my mom. Simply Love, Inc. grew out of the idea and statement I kept making when people would inquire how I was doing after my mom passed away from a lengthy battle with cancer. Throughout her fight, I was blessed enough to be able to drive down from Atlanta to Savannah every weekend and holiday to spend time with her. Sometimes that time was at her home and sometimes it was in the hospital. Wherever we were, we took the time to really see one another and talk about those moments from the past that we had held on to. Each of us was gently frank about the times we had been hurt by one another; though many of the times we spoke of, the other had known nothing about. We cried together in forgiveness and hugged and kissed like best friends making up after a spat. When she would be confined to the hospital, we had conversations about what her childhood was like in the Depression Era. I would ask her things like what she most remembered about her father and mother? What types of things did they get for Christmas? Why did she choose to get married at such an early age? What was her life like being married at that age? What were her aspirations? I recorded it all on paper. When at home, we took the time to record her voice reading books to her grandchildren. When she was strong enough to get around, we would dance in the living room or go shopping. When she couldn t muster the energy to get out, knowing my love of cooking, she would go through her recipe books and show me which were her favorites. She spoke of many of her regrets, one of which was of not being a better role model and having a career outside the home. I told her that I looked back and saw her strength in the sacrifices she had made to stay home with us. Not every woman is meant for a career outside of the home. She shouldn t focus on what she didn t do, but what she did do and be proud of what she did give us: faith, love and strength of character. Somewhere in my words, something penetrated her heart and she found a sense of peace in her purpose. She realized she was enough, just as she was. It was another of those moments where we cried and laughed and prayed together. We shared with certainty, the knowledge that we were each going to be okay and that we would see each other again no matter the time or place that she left us. When her cancer got to the point that her kidneys were failing from the chemo and her doctors stopped the treatments, she wouldn t consider another stem cell transplant. I was okay with her decision because there was nothing left unsaid between us. There was no angst of regret or should-have-said moments. When her body finally gave up, I was joyous that she was no longer in pain and was with the God she loved and longed to see. Please don t misunderstand, my heart was still broken at the thought of not having my mom around to call and talk with, especially given our recent close relationship. But what I gained was the ability to look back on those moments during my grief and it made the pain more bearable, and in short order, I found myself smiling at thoughts of the memories.

4 I later began to think about what the world would be like if we could all communicate the way she and I had during that time. Lives could be changed for the better! The more I spoke about that precious time, the more I wanted to make it happen for others! Simply Love is about communicating love in such a way that it becomes a legacy for all generations. Its about trying to heal relationships and teaching each new generation the value in communication and the value in each and every life regardless of our differences.
