I am proud to have been chosen as the honorary chair for the American Cancer Society s 2008 Cattle s Ball. As it has for so many of you, cancer has touched the lives of my friends and loved ones.

The Cattle s Ball is one of the events that has enabled the American Cancer Society to grant more than $3 billion to the nation s most promising cancer researchers over the past 60 years.

2 I am proud to have been chosen as the honorary chair for the American Cancer Society s 2008 Cattle s Ball. As it has for so many of you, cancer has touched the lives of my friends and loved ones. That s why I m looking forward to being involved in this year s event. The Cattle s Ball is one of the events that has enabled the American Cancer Society to grant more than $3 billion to the nation s most promising cancer researchers over the past 60 years. Their research linked smoking to cancer, helped create important breast cancer drugs and played a major role in developing bone marrow transplants. While enjoying an evening full of great food, music and friends, you ll be ensuring that such life-saving American Cancer Society research can continue for many years. Did you know that the nation s cancer death rate has been falling steadily since 1991? The American Cancer Society s hard-working volunteers and generous supporters deserve a great deal of credit for that impressive statistic. It means that thousands of those who would have suffered from this terrible disease are instead living happy, healthy lives. Your participation in the Cattle s Ball will help even more people survive this horrible illness. 8 PROFILE of the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY CATTLE BARON S BALL First launched in Texas in the 1970s, The American Cancer Society Cattle s Ball offers a one-of-a-kind experience to all attendees. This historymaking, volunteer-driven event is generously supported by the area s top corporate and medical organizations. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing the suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service. Since our Research Program began in 1946, the American Cancer Society has devoted about $3 billion to cancer research. By funding ground-breaking research, the American Cancer Society has contributed to many important discoveries that have led to a better understanding of cancer and cancer treatment. Dayton held it s first Cattle s last September. To say the least, it was a hugh success. Over 300 people attended. Those individuals and corporate sponsors helped raise nearly $120,000 for the American Cancer Society. Based on last year s success the 2008 Cattle s Ball will be one of Dayton s top premier events. This year s theme is Urban Cowboy, and what better facility but the Schuster Center to host this one of a kind party on September 13, Marketing and Graphic Design for the Cattle s Ball have been generously donated by The Agency Group, Ltd.
