1 Learn More: The Reservation Mission Trip July 2019 Why Arizona? 1. Purpose. We will be sharing the love of Christ with a primarily unreached people group. 2. Proximity. The Native American Reservations in Arizona are a short drive from home. We want parents to feel extremely comfortable sending their Middle School students on this trip, and what better way than to stay local. 3. Perspective. Serving others always pushes us to a different perspective, as we see things out of the ordinary and experience new cultures. We will also see how there are opportunities to serve people without even leaving the borders of Arizona. 4. Passion. We all desire a deeper trust in the Lord, and believe that this trip will ignite a fire in each of our hearts for Jesus. Who? 1. Middle school students th-9th graders are welcome. For the first time, 9th graders will get to decide which trip to participate in! 2. Adults. Adam & Kayla Knight, as well as trusted adult leaders from the Middle School Ministry (MSM). 3. Parents. Parents are welcome to join us on the trip, subject to an application process, and approved by Adam Knight. See pages 4 and Staff. Team members of Praying Pelican Missions, including Taylor Schatz, Reservations Ops Coordinator for PPM. 1
2 What? In Arizona and the Four Corners region, there are over 20 Native American Reservations where reaching the Native American people for Christ has been challenging due to restricted access to outside organizations. The Praying Pelican Missions staff has worked to develop genuine and trusting partnerships in a number of reservations where our mission team can serve alongside a local pastor in dynamic ministries, such as: 1. Children s Ministry: Minister to young children through leading VBS and/or puppets, crafts, Bible stories, sports, skits, and interactive games. 2. Service Projects/Construction: Live out the gospel through working on various light construction projects (painting, fence repairs, or whatever projects are needed in the community). 3. Sports Ministry: Use sports such as soccer, basketball, Frisbee, volleyball, or any largegroup game as a platform for building relationships and sharing the gospel. 4. Mercy Ministry: Be the hands and feet of Jesus, and visit and minister to those that others may have forgotten in senior centers, shut-ins, etc. Accommodations, Travel, Food. 1. We will be travelling in 15-passenger vans. 2. Our sleeping accommodations, mealtimes, and worship services/programming will all take place at a secure local church, school, or community center. 3. Rooms are divided by gender, and men s and women s restrooms/showers will be available. 4. Each participant should bring a twin-size air mattress and bedding, as we will be sleeping on the floor. 5. Praying Pelican Missions provides three main meals per day. 6. These meals will be a mixture of typical American style food and a local restaurant experience. During the consulting process, we will be able to identify team members who have allergies or dietary restrictions. PPM will do their best to accommodate these needs. Trip Preparation. 1. The commitment deadline is Sunday, November 25th. Save your spot by paying a nonrefundable deposit of $100 AND filling out the Commitment Form. See page Team meetings (approximately once a month) will begin on Sunday, December 2nd. 2
3 Cost and Fundraising. 1. $800/person. 2. Each participant is responsible for the entire cost of the trip. 3. However, our aim is to provide group fundraising efforts to meet 50% of the total. a. Each participant is required to participate in our group fundraising events to raise $400 towards the cost of their trip. 4. Individual payment schedule is as follows a. November 25: Non-refundable deposit of $100. b. January 13: Payment of $150 (bringing total paid to $250) c. June 16: Final payment of $150 (bringing total paid to $400) d. Families are welcome to pay the total cost of $800 if able. 5. Fundraising Opportunities (Details TBD) a. December: Support Letters (individual) b. January: Lunch after church c. February: Valentine s childcare d. March: 5K Run e. April: Silent Auction More Info About Praying Pelican Missions Questions/Concerns. Contact Adam Knight at aknight@northbible.com or
4 MSM Mission Trip 2019: The Reservation Parent Application Info Parents who choose to attend any North Bible Church event/trip should be in agreement with the following: o Parents will be expected to take part in all the activities that are required of our group. o Parents should be aware of their role as it relates to being on a trip with their own children. Serving together can be a source of great growth in that relationship. However, there may be times when allowing your child some space to participate apart from you may be appropriate. Knowing when to be involved and knowing when to allow space away from your child will help create the best environment for their spiritual & relational needs. o Adults should never be alone with a minor of the opposite gender. The only exception is family (i.e. father-daughter/mother-son). o We try to emphasize participation and inclusion in all group activities. Therefore, a parent-child duo should never seclude themselves from a required activity or withdraw from participation. o We require that all participants 18 years of age or older be screened and background checked by our church prior to attending. o Any questions, concerns, or activities that need to be reported should be brought to the attention of Adam Knight as soon as possible. I have read the above guidelines, understand the expectations placed on me as a parent participant, and agree to the above. Signed Date 4
