1 Canadian Criminal Justice Association NB/PEI: Educational Workshop Moncton, NB - May 27, a.m. 4:00 p.m. With the current difficult socio-economic conditions that agencies from both the government and NGP sector are struggling to survive in, service demands are far out-pacing their capacity to deliver their core services. With no immediate improvement in sight for these challenging socio economic conditions we need to be working together for transformational change that will sustain us in meeting our community s needs in this crucial area of service. As part of their public education mandate, the NB/PEI Chapter of the Canadian Criminal Justice Association (CCJA NB/PEI) is hosting an educational workshop entitled Rethinking Evidence-based Practice: How to improve client outcomes with little or no money featuring guest speaker Dr. Ralph Serin, Professor emeritus at Carleton University. Session Description: Beginning with a brief reminder about Evidence-based Practice, this presentation highlights several key areas where improving client outcomes cost little to no money. Specifically, the presentation will address issues of time management, fidelity of supervision, the importance of working relationships, and the assessment of dynamic risk, all with a focus on case planning and risk management. In addition, various public domain (free) job aids will be shared with participants for use with clients. In addition to the keynote presentation by Dr. Serin, the Board of CCJA NB/PEI will also facilitate a round table discussion on how justice system / public safety government and NGO professionals can better work together through formal and informal collaborations and partnerships. Discussion will include the exploration of moving beyond general collaborations toward more sustainable and integrated models. We will debate questions such as: are there economies of scale in these new approaches, and what are the threats, opportunities and challenges that we will face in the coming years. We need your leadership and your input to move this conversation forward. We hope you will also consider joining our Association and help us move this from a discussion to action and change for the better. Registration for this session is only $25 for regular members and $10 for student members. Non-member prices are $75 and $40 for a student (includes your first year CCJ association membership). The session will be held at the Lion s Community Centre (lunch included) located at 473 Saint George Street, Moncton, NB on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 10 a.m. 4:00 p.m. To register or for more information on this workshop session please call or info@ravenssun.ca
2 Who is the CCJA? You may be asking yourself exactly who is the CCJA, and why should you get involved? The Canadian Criminal Justice Association is a non-profit association represented by members implicated throughout the criminal justice system, including the public. It exists to promote rational, informed, and responsible debate in order to develop a more humane, equitable, and effective justice system. Our main objectives are: 1. To promote improved criminal justice programs, policies and legislation, especially crime prevention programs, 2. To foster a greater public understanding of criminal justice issues through education. The CCJA also advocates, consults, advises, facilitates discussion, monitors progress, and strives for improvement in the following areas: 1. Crime prevention 2. Community-based programs 3. Public policy 4. Justice programs and services 5. Legislation 6. Fairness, equity and the protection of rights 7. Communication, collegiality, consensus and cooperation 8.
