3 About the Beneficiary- Proceeds will be donated Since 1981, Children s Advocacy of Southwest Florida, Inc. (CAC) has worked to improve the lives of children and their families through a coordinated response to child abuse and neglect, offering them a safe and friendly environment in which to heal. CAC provides abuse determination services as well as therapeutic counseling, parenting education, and prevention programs in Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Charlotte Counties. All services are provided free of charge. CAC is the only children s advocacy center in the four-county area accredited by the National Children s alliance, and on one the largest in the state of Florida. For more information, please call or visit HISTORY 1981, The current Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida, Inc. begins operating as the Child Protection Team with the sole purpose of determining whether or not abuse had occurred. 1984, The Child Protection Team is incorporated under the name Southwest Florida Children's Fund, Inc. 1985, The National Children's Advocacy Center movement began and soon the concept of advocacy centers emerged in Florida. The centers provided child-friendly settings where investigations could occur and treatment plans could be designed. They also became sites for the development of preventive strategies. 1994, The first Children's Advocacy Center in Florida opens in Daytona Beach, serving Volusia and Flagler Counties. Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida adds the Family Alliance program. 1998, Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida adds Prevention Services program. 2001, Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida changed its name from Southwest Florida Children's Fund to the current Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida, Inc. to more accurately reflect services provided. 2002, Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida is accredited by the National Children's Alliance. 2008, Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida is reaccredited by the National Children's Alliance and named the lead agency for the East United Way House in East Fort Myers. 2009, Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida moves into newly renovated 20,000 square foot building after the successful completion of Honor Thy Children capital campaign. 2011, Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida, and founder and CEO, Jill Turner, celebrate 30th anniversary.
