1 DWC Chatter Happy New Year to All, A new year is upon us and new life at the Deltona Woman's Club. We will be hosting the District 6 Craft Meeting on February 26, We would love to see everyone here. Further details will be available at the January meeting, which will be an evening meeting at 6:00 pm on January 14, Remember, if you need a ride, please call and someone will pick you up. At our meeting in January, we will be collecting school supplies as well as socks and underwear for Discovery Elementary students. I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2 Page 2 DWC Chatter Membership HAPPY NEW YEAR, CLUB SISTERS!!! I m starting out with this quote There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm. -Willa Cather These last few years have been tough ones. We ve lost several of our members. Some moved away, some left for personal reasons, and several have gained their wings and passed on. We ve had a few major storms hit our club that we thought we wouldn t survive, but we learned that in the midst of the storm there is a rainbow. In our case we had a triple rainbow. Two of our members came to the rescue by securing credit and the third (as Eldine puts it) reached out in generosity from the grave. Then with the rest of the members grabbing an umbrella, together we weathered the storm. Now we are covered and can move on doing the work that DWC Charities, Inc. was formed to do. On that note, let s start 2016 with a big bang by growing our membership and wishing a big Happy Birthday to our members born in January. This will in turn effect change in and for our global friends and their communities. I would like to remind everyone about the dinner dance show, February 27, at our club. We ask the members help with the event. We will salute our neighbors and our friends from around the world. More information will follow at a later time. 3 Volume 10, Issue 1 Page 3 Community Bazaars The next Community Bazaar will be held February 13, 2016, the day before Valentine s Day. We are looking forward to more yummy baked goods and some wonderful Valentine gifts (buy one for yourself!). Contact Mary Niehaus if you wish additional information. Mary Arts and Crafts New Year's Day Prayer for One and All Dear Lord So far this year I've done well. I haven't gossiped, I haven't lost my temper, I haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish, or overindulgent. I'm very thankful for that. But in a few minutes, Lord, I'm going to get out of bed, and from then on I'm probably going to need a lot more help. Amen Ladies, If you would like to enter the GFWC Arts & Crafts competition, you need to bring any craft or piece of art you have made in the year 2015 to the club by January 13 for judging. We will have the art festival at our meeting on January14 where the entries will be displayed. If you would like to know the judging categories, see the GFWC website or contact Betty Ferro. We have not had any craft sessions for the past few weeks due to the Holidays, but we will start again on January 6, 2016, 1:00 pm 3:00 pm. Hope to see more of you there. Thanks. Betty, Marilyn, Mary & Jo Education SANTA CLAUS CAME TO TOWN On December 11, Discovery Elementary School had a holiday party for the students. Deltona Woman s Club played a big part. New member, Angela Amoroso s husband, Michael, played the role of Santa Claus to the delight of the children. The Club also sponsored a free raffle for the children which generated lots of excitement. We gave away two beautiful Victorian style dolls and four action figures. Many thanks to Michael, Angela, Betty Ferro, and Eldine Marchbank for their help with this event. Mary

It is a pleasure and a privilege to find, meet and work with an organization of women who are focused on enhancing the lives of those who find themselves in need and marginalized. As a new member I am excited about the opportunity to learn and be guided in effective community service. As a new CSP for Home Life, please feel free to provide input that will help fulfill community needs and DWC s program goals. Thank you for allowing me to be an active part of the collective whole. 6 Page 6 DWC Chatter Support Our Charities Please help us support our charities. Your donation will matter. One package of pasta and a jar of sauce will matter to a family with nothing in the pantry for dinner. One package of diapers will matter to a new mother without any diapers. Socks will matter to the child who comes to school in cold weather without them. A notebook and pencil will matter to the child who has nothing on which to do his homework. A monthly schedule of charities is listed below. Please support our charities. We ask each member to bring one of the items listed below to the meeting: January - Discovery Elementary - School Supplies February - Community Life Center - Pasta, Rice, or Dried Beans March - Pregnancy Center - Diapers and Wipes April - Discovery Elementary - Pencils, Composition Books and Crayons May - Community Life Center - Canned foods with pop tops (for homeless) Dieting - New Year Resolutions 2012: I will get my weight down below 180 pounds. 2013: I will follow my new diet religiously until I get below 200 pounds. 2014: I will develop a realistic attitude about my weight. 2015: I will work out 3 days a week. 2016: I will try to drive past a gym at least once a week.
