2 SafeSpace, established in 1979, serves women, children and men in Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties and is the only certified domestic violence center serving the Treasure Coast. SafeSpace operates a 60-bed emergency shelter, a 12-bed transitional housing program, and also offers safety, support, education and outreach services to victims in all three counties to empower them and provide the assistance necessary to set a positive direction for their future. Often, victims and families find themselves at SafeSpace with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Every dollar that SafeSpace receives helps to save and change the lives of victims of domestic violence on the Treasure Coast. This year SafeSpace is moving the walks to February 2019 in all three Treasure Coast counties. Partnership with SafeSpace and Walk A Mile In Her Shoes keeps the shelters operating, provides basic necessities for survivors, funds the 24-hour hotline, supports legal advocacy, provides health care assistance, counseling, support groups, and funding of children s programs. Everyone deserves the right to have a violence-free relationship. The primary purpose of SafeSpace is to provide safety...then empower victims of domestic violence to become survivors by creating a safe, independent life for themselves and their families. SafeSpace would not be able to continue its efforts without the support of the generous communities it serves.
