They are Lion Tim Kershner sponsored by PDG Lion Myron Amstutz, and Lions Heidi Spade and Jack Olmstead sponsored by Lion Nancy Meyers. Please welcome them at our upcoming meeting. Our March 1 meeting is also the nominating meeting. In addition to the slate of officers by the Nominating Committee, nominations will also be taken from the floor. Lion Mark Rafield, the Ashland County Emergency Management Director and Lions District Alert Coordinator will be the speaker. Our March 15 meeting will be our annual White Elephant auction. Please bring a wrapped gift to be auctioned off. This meeting has always been a fun time for all, plus raising funds for our Club operations. March 20 is the first day of Spring, and April 1 is Easter Sunday. The April 5 meeting will have Angela Woodward as our speaker. She is director of the Ashland County Cancer Association. This is also the Election of Officers meeting. The April 19 meeting will be our annual Lion/Daughter meeting. The Entertainment Committee is in charge of the arrangements. 2 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING February 8, 2018 By: PDG Lion Myron Amstutz The Ashland Evening Lions Board of Directors met February 8, 2018 at Ashland County Historical Society Manor House with Lion President Paul Goard presiding. Voting members present were (Lions all) Paul Goard, PCC/PDG Forrest Woody Conrad, Ed Krakora, Ann Miller, PDG Myron Amstutz, Nancy Meyers, IPP Bill Snyder, Ron Hofer, Bob Carver, Seth Gasche, and Clarence Hofer. Non-voting members present were (Lions all) Walt Gilmore and Zone Chairman Glen McClure. The meeting was opened with the Pledge led by Lion President Paul Goard followed by the Invocation given by Zone Chairman Lion Glen McClure. The minutes of the January 2018 Board of Directors meeting were read and approved as read. The Treasurer s report was presented by Assistant Treasurer Lion Nancy Meyers due to the illness of Treasurer Lion Kim Mercer. The report showed both the Project Fund and the Administrative Fund to be in the black. 1 st Vice President PCC/PDG Lion Woody Conrad moved to accept and approve the report, 2 nd by Lion Bob Carver. The motion carried. COMMUNICATIONS: Lion President Paul Goard read a letter from LCIF acknowledging the Club s contribution of $1,000 to LCIF for a Melvin Jones Fellowship to be named later. Lion President Paul Goard read a letter from Associated Charities thanking the Club for our continued support at Thanksgiving and Christmas. COMMITTEE REPORTS: (Only committees with reports will be included) Audit & Finance The Treasurer s report shows both Funds are in the black after all International, State and District Projects have been paid. Entertainment The committee is searching for a speaker for the Lion/Daughter meeting. Grocery Had one delivery last week and none this week. Membership Induction of three new members will be February15. Noonan Use Two applications are pending. PR The Newsletter deadline is February Recycle Things are slow due to the cold weather unable to get anything outside. We Care Lion Carol Dickson was taken to the ER with severe back pain. OLD BUSINESS: Audit of the books is in progress. Centennial Project is on hold due to Home Hardware changing ownership and winter weather. NEW BUSINESS: Lion President Paul Goard mentioned that too few are eating meals at the Pump House and may result in a price increase. Lion Seth Gasche mentioned that the Rotary Club would like to have our Club join them in a joint interact project at the Career Center. Lion Walt Gilmore checked with the Fire Dept. on the new food trailer regulations published by the State. The only suggestion was to have a fire extinguisher in the trailer and there is one already there. It was suggested that a combination CO2 and smoke detector be mounted in the trailer. Mapleton PAC is in need of a popcorn machine. The Club has one purchased from Sally that isn t being used. Lion Seth Gasche moved to donate our popcorn machine to the Mapleton PAC, 2 nd by IPP Lion Bill Snyder. The motion carried. UP-COMING EVENTS: February 15 Induction of new members & No Paws Left Behind February 21 Zone 7 Advisory Polk Lions host March 1 Nominating Meeting & Mark Rafeld, speaker March 8 Board of Directors ACHS Manor House March 15 Spring Fling The Benediction was given by 3 rd Vice President Lion Ann Miller, and the meeting was adjourned at 7:24 p.m. CONVENTION NOTES By: 3 rd VP Lion Ann Miller For anyone planning to attend the convention, please take advantage of the waterpark. The cost is $10 payable at the desk rather than the normal $29.

6 A Wild Cab Ride 4 Last week a passenger in a cab headed for Midway Airport leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver swerved, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few minutes everything was silent in the cab. Then the shaken driver said, Are you OK? I m so sorry but you scared the daylights out of me. The badly shaken passenger apologized to the cab driver and said, I didn t realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly. The cab driver replied, No, no...i m the one who is sorry. It s entirely my falt. Today is my first day driving a cab. I ve been driving a hearse for 25 years.
