A Big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on such a successful Holiday Boutique. We raised more than $4,500 for SOS/Meals on Wheels which is almost 25% of our goal. So many members worked to make this such a wonderful event and I want to thank everyone who contributed; especially, Charlotte and Janna Lusschen, Gloria Johanson, Martha Maxson, and Wendy Morehouse. We ve had some great accomplishments this year and I am so proud of all we ve put into place to support Meals on Wheels. We are on track to meet our 70 th Anniversary goal and are meeting our mission of investing in our community. We have also built many new friendships through community outreach and added new members to our Club family. There are interesting and exciting Programs and Adventures coming up in the New Year and some very special events in December. Please join us for our Adventure to the Orchard Nursery and lunch, the December luncheon with holiday music by the Castro Valley High School Madrigal Choir, and the T.G.I.F. at Stephanie Bigelow s home. 2 December Adventure and Dine Out Tuesday, December 5, 2017 Orchard Nursery & The Hideout Kitchen Cafe in Lafayette Carpools leave the Clubhouse 10:15 A.M Lunch at the Hideout 12:30 P.M. There is no better way to get into the Christmas Spirit than to join us for our Holiday Adventure. Orchard Nursery is a wonderful full-service garden center, with an exceptional florist and standalone gift shop for unusual and hard-to-find plants and gifts. At Christmas time, the facility becomes magical with show stopping displays and incredible decorations. So far, we have 9 participants. 5 Saturday Bridge Fundraiser Results Unfortunately, only five tables participated in the November 18 Saturday Bridge Fundraiser. 6 The Castro Valley Library will be facilitating the first ever Castro Valley Reads! Program beginning in January Castro Valley Reads! is a community-wide literary event encouraging people to read and discuss the same book. The program includes discussion groups and special events inspired by the themes in the book. Castro Valley Reads celebrates reading and books and fosters a sense of community by encouraging a thoughtful exchange of ideas. The Book will be announced in December and the kick off event will be Sunday, January 21 at 2 pm. Those who attend the kick off and sign up for a discussion group will get a free copy of the book. The library will also take discussion group sign ups after Jan 21. You can join one of the discussion groups or form your own with four or more people. All who then participate in a discussion group in February or March will get an invitation to the finale on Friday, April 6, which will include a presentation from the author and a light dinner. We realize the finale is on the Friday of spring break but it was the day the author was available. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please Note: A Great Opportunity! The library is reaching out to community groups in CV to start spreading the word. Librarian, Chris Selig would love to have help from the CVWC beginning in December. She has also suggested the possibility of the Club s Board members and other members to form one or more discussion groups. The first event, a traditional Hungarian dinner, will be held at our clubhouse on the evening of February 22. Liz Hartman is the chef and will be preparing an authentic Hungarian dinner complete with a traditional dessert. Wine will also be available. Be sure to buy your ticket early as we are anticipating this event will sell out quickly. All proceeds from the Hungarian dinner will go to SOS/MOW. A second event, Bunco Fundraiser, is still in the planning stages and will be held in March or April.

Castro Valley Women s Club General Program Meeting-Wednesday, January 17, :00 P.M. at the Clubhouse Guest Speaker Jim Knudsen Meeting to follow Jim is a member of the 100 Club Board of Directors and past President. The 100 Club is a worldwide not for profit charitable organization that provides immediate support for spouses of police officers and firefighters that have been killed in the line of duty in Alameda County. Scholarships for the children of these men and women are also provided by the club. This is a fantastic opportunity to have an up-close look at what this worldwide organization is all about. Ask a friend or neighbor to come along with you! Your input is needed and we want to hear from You! Send us your suggestions and ideas for Club Programs and activities that interest YOU! Do you have a suggestion for a Program topic with a keynote speaker? Do you have a favorite locale for a fun Adventure?...Tell us! The Board will review your comments and will keep you informed of their progress. You can send your ideas , by phone or turn them in at the January meeting. *For those suggestions selected, there will be a drawing for a $25.00 Gift* Card!
