2 Mission The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service. Together with our millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society Saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping people Stay well and get well by finding cures and by fighting back.

3 2016 What:, is organized by a volunteer committee and hosted by the North Palm Beach Unit Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society. This elegant evening will feature a gourmet sit-down dinner, live and silent auctions, entertainment and dancing. Where: The Club at Admirals Cove When: Saturday, February 20, 2016 Theme: A Night On Nantucket Attire: Cocktail No Jackets required Impact: Research: Your proceeds will support the largest private non-profit source of funding for scientists studying cancer. We fund 25% of all new investigators research on cancer leading to discoveries that have resulted in 46 funded researchers going on to become Nobel Laureates. These discoveries benefit people in our community everyday. Education: Your proceeds teach people how to avoid preventable cancers, when to get early detection tests, what treatment options exist and how to care for the cancer patient. We sponsor support groups, hold classes, seminars, forums, do outreach to health professionals who need to know the latest information on treatment and clinical trials, and develop programs aimed at youth and adults on the advantages of healthy life style choices (don t smoke, eat fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly, use sunscreen, follow early detection guidelines). Advocacy: Legislative advocacy at federal, state and local levels is another area where the American Cancer Society makes a difference. Advocacy is a force multiplier in the war against cancer. Changes in laws can impact millions of people, exponentially expanding and enhancing the American Cancer Society s mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The public arena can be as powerful a tool against cancer as the lab. Service: Your proceeds provide services for cancer patients and their family; improving their quality of life. Services providing information through our call center and website are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We also provide information on our Clinical Trials Matching Service and treatment decision tools. Day to Day help includes transportation, lodging, financial and insurance questions as well as prescription drug assistance.
