Parish walkers can fill out all 3 forms, staple all 3 forms into a packet for each walker and bring them to the Walk. 4. The SVDP of SA FOP FAQ Frequently asked questions about this year s walk 5. Talking Points, to bring awareness of the FOP Walk to other Parish Ministries so as to request sponsorship and support within the congregation. Sponsorship is a great way to raise money for SVDP at a Parish level. For example, asking for a pledge of $10 for a walker allows the SVDP to pay the $5 FOP Walk Registration Fee while at the same time keeping $5 to fund SVDP works within the Parish. 6. Pledge form A, for use if individuals wish to raise funds themselves (attachment 4) 7. Pledge form B, for use if the Parish SVDP chooses to raise funds at the Parish Level by general Sponsorship (attachment 5) 8. Map to El Carmen Conferences are encouraged to carpool from their home Parishes. This promotes fellowship between Vincentians and friends outside of the church setting.

I hereby consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident and/or illness during this event. I understand that at this event or related activities, I may be photographed. 5 St. Vincent de Paul of the Archdiocese San Antonio 2015 Friends of the Poor Walk 1. How is this event different from past Friends of the Poor Walks sponsored by SVDP SA? The national walk remains the same; we have started this year on a small scale because it has been a few years since our last walk and we did not want to go overboard. 2. Will there be T-Shirts? This year we are keeping costs low to focus on the feeding of the hungry, so we will not be offering shirts. We encourage walkers to wear their Vincentian Blues or whatever they re most comfortable wearing. 3. What if it rains? This event will be (light)rain or shine. Many that we serve must endure the elements; Vincentians and St. Vincent de Paul supporters should be able to do so as well. (If there is a severe weather emergency on the news flood/tornado et al the walk will be cancelled) 4. How long is the walk is it difficult? While the walk will not be difficult, there is no sidewalk since this is a rural area. The road will NOT be blocked off, so walkers must keep to the road shoulder. The walk itself is no more than a mile. If the weather permits there will be an extended path, for those walkers that wish a little more exercise. 5. What about bikes and strollers? Though we will have the Bexar County Sheriff s Department to watch the main points of the road where we will be walking, the lack of sidewalk would require the stroller to be pushed on the road itself. We strongly discourage children and adults from bringing bicycles during this event. 6. Is there a reduced registration fee for children? Yes. Children 3 and under are free; children and teens ages 4 through 17 have a reduced rate of $3. 7. May our Conference bring our banner? Yes! Along with those St. Vincent de Paul blues, we love seeing Conference solidarity. Be sure to take plenty of pictures! 8. May other faith groups or walkers participate? Yes! The standard registration fee applies. The sponsorship ideas presented in this toolkit, however, are strictly for St. Vincent de Paul use, as this is an event to raise funds for and bring awareness of the work of SVDP.
6 St. Vincent de Paul of the Archdiocese San Antonio 2015 Friends of the Poor Walk Tips for bringing awareness of your event to your Parish and Community Ways your Parish can raise funds: Please Note: Conferences will be asked to report the amount of money raised so that SVDP of SA may include those totals in our final evaluation report. 1. Individuals may ask for direct Sponsorship via the Individual Pledge Form (attachment 4) so as to increase the earning potential. NOTE: This requires each walker to go out and get personal sponsors. (Good for people with a large and active social network) 2. St. Vincent de Paul may choose instead just take donations to put toward the walk at a suggested rate of $10 per walker, which after the $5 FOP Walk Registration, the Conference keeps the other $5 for Conference use. There is a form that the SVDPs may use to keep track of funds for the day of the walk (attachment 5). Sponsorship funds may be collected at the Church and the Conference may write one check to cover all its walkers the day of the walk. Here are some folks Vincentians may ask to either sponsor one or more St. Vincent de Paul Walkers, or choose to join SVDP in the actual walk: The Knights of Columbus The CYO and other Youth Ministries An affiliated Catholic High School or Parish Elementary School Fitness Buffs Family Members Alumni Associations Co-Workers (or a Spouse s co-workers) PTAs or PTCs Social Groups i.e. Scouts, Friends of the Library, MC club riders
