1 HOPE HOUSE NEWSLETTER Where We Go From Surviving to Thriving MARCH & APRIL 2018 Day at the Capitol Join the National Alliance on Mental Illness on March 15th and make your voice heard! A van from Hope House and one from Lake Country Associates in Park Rapids will be caravanning to St. Paul. Members with mental illness, including from Clearwater County, Hubbard County, Lake of the Woods County, and Beltrami County will attend with people from around the state. The Day at the Capitol includes a briefing and a rally in the morning, and meetings with legislators in the afternoon. This opportunity is thanks to Region II Mental Health Initiative funding. Here are the details for Hope House members who want to attend: The sign up list for the trip is in the Hope House drop-in center kitchen. At least two Hope House members will attend, and more if people from other counties aren t going. The van leaves for St. Paul from Hope House at 1 pm on Wed, March 14 and returns on Thursday, March 15, late evening. Your Wed supper, Thursday lunch, and Thursday supper are paid for, as well a hotel room, breakfast at the hotel, and transportation. This event has a lot of walking, outside and in the State Capitol. 2 Details from page 1: Here are the dates: Tuesday, March 6 th, 1 to 3 pm at Hope House - learn about legislative issues and how to talk with your legislators. Wednesday, March 14, Thursday, March 15 Leave 1 pm Wed from Hope House for the State Capitol. You must sign up ahead to be able to go. You will be gone overnight. (See front page) Thursday 9:30 Briefing in St. Paul. Rally at 10. Lunch at noon. 1 pm Meet with legislators. 3 pm return home on Thursday night. Tuesday, March 20 th 1 to 3 pm at Hope House re-cap of Day at the Capitol by those who went for those who couldn t go. Monday, April 2 at 1 pm in the County Board Room. Day at the Capitol attendees present to the Region II Mental Health Initiative about their experiences Legislative Issues: On March 6 th, our activity will be getting together to discuss the gaps and strengths of mental health in Minnesota, preparing those who are going to Day on the Hill to share and pass on the ideas of their fellow members who may not be able to attend.

3 Tim Fellman, Community Mental Health Practitioner, is retiring We are sad to say that Tim Fellman is retiring March 8, After working for Hope House from 1998 to 2018, Tim has decided it is time for a well-deserved break. During his time with Hope House, Tim has coached many members to achieve their goals and get a home run. He is very proud of the great accomplishments many members have made. He says that helping you has been the greatest reason for his staying all these years. Tim has also hit his own home runs. He has managed 20 to 26 people on a caseload, conducted groups, handled crises and emergencies, assisted clients with seeing their doctors and getting their medications, and helped clients to get food, housing, medical and other needs. He has done it all with a smile on his face and a positive word for everyone! And he hasn t stopped there. Tim developed the Hope House website quite a few years ago and ensures that it runs smoothly. Tim has also taken on other caseload when staff were absent or gone, including ensuring that paperwork deadlines were met and clients had medication and basic needs fulfilled. He has been a signer on payroll and expense checks. He has provided singing Christmas ducks, puns, and other humor for members and staff. Tim has been loyal, dedicated, kind, helpful, fun, and courageous. We appreciate and thank him for his years of service with Hope House. We will miss you, Tim! We wish you well in retirement and in your future endeavors! Members of Hope House may say goodbye to Tim at a gathering in his honor on Thursday, March 8, from noon to 2 pm in the Hope House garage activity area.

4 Region II Meeting: Monday April 2 nd, at the Beltrami Admin Building at 1PM, all members are welcome to join. If you attend Day on the Hill, this is a great opportunity to share your experience. Robin will be attending, and Hope House will be taking a van if transportation is needed. Thursday Drop-In Hours: We ve extended our drop-in hours on Thursdays! It s now open from 8:30AM to 3:30PM. There will still be an activity from 1-3PM, but feel free to come and hang out before then! An important reminder if you are planning on spending the day on Thursdays, PACK A LUNCH! The day could get very long if you re hungry! :) DROP-IN HOURS: Mon-Tues-Fri 1:00-3:00 Thursday s from 8:30-3:30 Drop-in is Closed on Wednesdays (except for med clinic) We encourage members to attend the off-site activities on Wednesdays. BSU Rec Center: We have our membership with the BSU REC center until May 3rd, so we re trying to enjoy it as frequently as possible. As a Hope House member, this is available to you during their open hours!
