Mr Bruce will be driving the bus over every day and Jane Fitzgerald will be organising the complete swimming program with the assistance of Nikiesha, Mr Bruce, Mr Moodley and parent volunteers. As we have many more students than last year we are calling on parents and community members to help out. This may be hopping in the pool with the students or just helping supervise and getting the children dressed at the end of the session. A roster is on the following pages and we still have some gaps to be filled, if you can help out please give the school a call so we can slot you in! Our swimming program finishes on Friday 2 nd March with our swimming sports being on that day. Parents, grandparents and friends are all encouraged to come and watch the students and cheer them along. This event will start at 12.30, after the students have had an early lunch. Last week the three year six students made a speech to the school as well as to myself, Mr Bruce and Jane McLean (from the Department) explaining why they should be our School Captain. They all did an amazing job and it was an extremely tough decision. They also had to write a letter to me explaining why they wanted to represent our school and then the students also voted on who they thought would be a great leader. Like I said earlier it was a really hard decision and I could have given them all the job I was even considering breaking tradition and having three leadership roles within the school, but then decided against this! Congratulations goes to Damon Grigg, who is our 2018 School Captain. Sienna Chamberlain is taking on the role of SRC president, while Haydon Tapscott will be the SRC Secretary. Charlotte Ellul is the SRC treasurer and keen to look after the money situation! House Captains this year are Sophie Tapscott (Ballantyne) and Riley Pertzel (Clarke). I am sure they will all take their roles very seriously and I am looking forward to watching them grown as leaders. Once again this year we are calling on volunteers to help with our spelling program that is run every day from No experience is needed and everything is prepared and set out for you. If you can help us out it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the school if you are interested.

2 Our first School Council meeting for the year is on Tuesday 20th February. Policy meeting will be at 6.30 pm. Finance will be at 7.30 and our general meeting at The March meeting will be the AGM, and we will have a couple parent positions available. I have attached more information about being a school councillor and what is involved. If you are interested a nomination form will be sent home with the next newsletter. If you require more information please do not hesitate to contact me. Parent / Student / Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Thursday 22nd March. These will be run during the day and students will be asked to attend with their parents. A booking sheet will be sent home closer to the date. Staff over the last few weeks have been attending Professional Development days in Murtoa and Rainbow, based on Literacy and Numeracy. All staff have returned from these days enthused and keen to implement the teaching and learning strategies presented. The MATES program will continue again this year, as not only did the students get a lot out of this program, but so did the mentors themselves! I am now taking names for anyone who may be interested in doing the training and being part of our school community and this initiative. At this stage I have four new people interested. If you have already done the MATES training you aren t required to do it again and your Mate is keen to catch up with you real soon! A huge thank you must go to those families and community members who returned the brief survey that I sent out a few weeks ago. This data is now being collated in preparation for the school review. Tanya Turner Student accident insurance, ambulance cover arrangements and private property brought to schools Parents are reminded that the Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students and also private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Attached is a flyer to a company that offers Student Cover to consider. Market News. We hope to have a stall at the market next term. We are looking for new and fresh ideas of what we can sell. The idea of just having pastries has been tossed around, but if you have any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated! Every family would be asked to donated some cooking each month to share the load around. Also students would be rostered on to man the stall only once throughout the year. Parents Club News Reminding all,that the Parents Club Meeting will be held on 21st of February at 6.30pm Apsley Primary School. We ask all who attending to be prompt so the meeting can start on time.

6 Swimming Lesson at Edenhope. With the increase of student numbers we need some help with swimming lessons this year. If you can spare one hour to two hours we would really appreciate it.
