Chapter Goals: Define NRHH s Role on Campus Our main goal for this year was to define what NRHH s purpose on campus. We have worked heavily with RHA to define the difference between our two organizations. Since we have members that consists of Community Advisors and RHA members, we needed to figure out what we would provide that was different from what RHA provides. Improve Induction Process We wanted to promote that we are looking for more quality members than quantity of members. Therefore, we intensified our application and added an interview piece to be able to get to know the quality better of our applicants. Revise the Constitution After last school year, we looked through our constitution and realized that we needed to add what we practice into our policy. Areas we focused on included Executive Board Member s roles during meetings, honor cord application process and requirements, and membership requirements. 5 6

Chapter Meetings and Events This year, the Victor E. Huskie Chapter wanted to focus our meetings around the two values of service and recognition. Every week, we have a different meeting structure. On the first week, we have a general assembly meeting where we meet with our members and update everyone on upcoming events, hold elections, and pass legislation. On the second week, we host a recognition initiative event. On week three, we host a service event or community service initiative. Then the cycle starts over throughout the semester. For our Spring 2015 inductions, we inducted eight new members. The induction ceremony was hosted in the New Orleans Game Room in the basement of Stevenson Residence Hall. We had over 25 people attend to support our new inductees. To start off the Fall, we organized a table to recruit new members at the annual Involvement Fair during Welcome Days at Northern Illinois University. Over 30 people signed up to receive more information about our meetings and how to get inducted. This was also a time to define the new NRHH. NRHH hosted a Success Jar night where participants decorated mason jars and wrote positive messages and goals for each other and for the new year. 6 7

Chapter Meetings and Events The first service event that was hosted was 101 Ways to Serve and Scoop. As an organization, we came up with 101 ways we could serve our campus through service events. We were then able to submit this list to be published on our website. The first recognition program that was hosted was an OTM writing seminar. As an organization, our goal was to continue to promote OTM writing on all levels of campus life. Not only were we able to hold a session during our own meeting, but we were able to present and spread OTM awareness at student-staff training, professional staff meetings, and also at RHA general assembly meetings. The Victor E. Huskie Chapter also hosted a service event at the Communiversity Gardens at Northern Illinois University. Together, the chapter was able to tidy the gardens, plant new seeds, and harvest vegetables that were ready. NRHH was involved in Homecoming 2015 during the Homecoming 5K that was hosted by Campus Recreation. Members met at 6 am on a Saturday morning to volunteer to help set up, clear roads, and cheer on the runners of the event. 7 8

Chapter Meetings and Events NRHH hosted a Candy-gram recognition program to recognize Hall Council Executives and Community Advisors for their hard work and dedication during the first six weeks of classes. These candy-grams were distributed to each individual in their mailboxes. NRHH hosted a Build Your Team and De-Stress event after mid-terms. The purpose of this event was to give participants the opportunity to experience some of our favorite team builders as well as de-stress after such a stressful week of testing. Fall 2015 Inductions were a huge success. The theme of the event was Blue Tie. Inductees literally walked in on a red carpet and were recognized for being inducted. A pasta bar dinner was also served to compliment the night. Four diamond leadership awards were presented to two members and two non-members. It was a great time for reflection of our accomplishments for the semester. 8 9

Of The Months Over 150 OTMs have been submitted from all categories in the last year. This is over double the amount from the previous year. In the past year, NIU has submitted 6 Regional Award winning OTMs. OTMs have been the main source of recognition for the amazing programs and people on campus. We have found that Professional Staff are more aware of this recognition initiative and are pushing their staffs to submit more OTMs. Executive Board Members from NRHH have presented at multiple meetings throughout the year and gave a formal presentation of the OTM process. We use our Facebook page to remind everyone to submit OTMs as well as we consistently make announcements at NRHH and RHA meetings to remind everyone to write submissions. NRHH recognizes OTM winners by announcing campus winners at general assembly meetings. NRHH also recognizes Regional and Nationally awarded OTMs on our Facebook page. Regional and National award winners are provided a pen and certificate at the Induction and Awards ceremony at the end of each semester. For the first time since 2003, the Victor E. Huskie Chapter was recognized with a NACURH Award winning OTM for Advisor of the Month for the month of October for Will Nolan written by our Associate Director of Administration and Finance, Jenny Murphy. 9 10

Oh The Places You Will Go With Leadership During fall retreat in September, the NRHH Executive Board came together to plan a leadership conference that was specific to NRHH and the values of the organization. Together, they decided that they wanted to host a one day event where schools from the entire region would be invited to come and attend programs, share experiences, and create a community greater than just at a campus level. The theme of the conference came from the classic Dr. Seuss story Oh The Places You Will Go. Invitations went out in late October. s were sent out to campus representatives and students from various residence halls. Facebook posts were also featured on the GLACURH NRHH Facebook page. Over 40 student leaders from across the region came to share the experience of NIU s first annual NRHH leadership conference. Attendees came from schools such as Northern Illinois University, Eastern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, Indiana University South Bend, and Saginaw Valley State University

Oh The Places You Will Go With Leadership Nine programs based upon leadership, recognition, service, and community were presented. We also hosted a large group team builder. Guest speaker Dino Martinez, Associate Director of Marketing at NIU, came to share his take on leadership and how to create a greater community of leaders. We also did a Letters to our Heroes philanthropy. We wrote letters to local firemen and police officers to thank them for their services. This conference was the first annual and it provided a great opportunity to promote NRHH on campus. This opportunity has made a lasting impact on NRHH by giving NIU the opportunity to connect through the values of NRHH to strengthen the impact of the organization on campus

Recognition Diamond Leadership Awards Every semester at our Induction and Awards Ceremony, NRHH awards two members and two non-members with this award. This award is given to those who show extensive leadership, service, and recognition on campus. Induction Paddles During our Induction Ceremonies, we recognize those who are inducted by awarding them with paddles to recognize their accomplishment and to represent their membership within the organization. Community On Board Paddle Every month, the Executive Board votes on a campus community to award the Community On Board (COB) paddle. The paddle is decorated like a cob of corn to embrace our hometown of Dekalb. This is awarded monthly at RHA meetings. It is a traveling award that travels from community to community each month. National Residence Hall Month During the month of February, NRHH at NIU is currently planning a series of programs put on by our members to promote unity through service and recognition on campus. We are also planning weekly recognition initiatives such as bulletin boards, door decorations, and letters to give to various communities within the halls

Communication Some of the changes in communication this past year has included getting a set day and time that NRHH can meet on consistently. Every Monday at 6 pm you can find our chapter meeting in Grant Residence Hall. We use our chapter s Facebook page to send out a Facebook event. We have been sending out creative flyers and invitations to our member s through and Facebook. We also communicate with members regarding their membership status to make sure they are coming to the meetings and events to maintain active membership. We also send out reminders through and Facebook about OTM submissions. Our members are very confident in going out into the community and promoting NRHH. Each week, NRHH has a representative at RHA meetings to make announcements and contribute in the discussions about legislation and programming on campus. Our members currently consist of Hall Council Executives, Community Advisors, and RHA Executives. We are in the process of defining our target audience. We are trying to attract residents who do not necessarily have a leadership role within their halls. NRHH at NIU continues to support our state organization (IRHA). Currently, three of our active members serve as IRHA Executive Board Members. Our Communications Coordinator represents NIU NRHH at the annual state conference. NIU continues to connect with other NRHH chapters in the state to create a greater community and a line of support for up and coming chapters

Conference Involvement Regionally, NRHH has sent a Communications Coordinator to every GLACURH business conference and regional conference. Multiple members of NRHH have attended GLACURH 2015 and presented programs. We have also had members involved on the regional OTM committee. Through this connection, we have the distinctive privilege to have up to date information on what is going on in the region. Nationally, NRHH has sent multiple members to NACURH 2015, which was hosted at North Dakota State University. These members were able to receive the leadership experience of a lifetime and bring back what they learned to our campus. NRHH and RHA Together, both organizations continue to work together to make a difference in the campus community. Recently, two executives from each organization have met to continue the conversation of how to define the purpose of both organizations on our campus. The NRHH-CC and NCC continue to collaborate to prepare delegations for the conferences that take place throughout the year. Together, the NRHH-CC and NCC write bids and delegate bid writing to delegates who are willing. This is a great way for both organizations to promote recognition through bid writing. Both organizations have great representation at each others meetings weekly
