3 GENERATE 2013 It is possible that we may witness the end of extreme poverty in our lifetime. It s one of the greatest challenges that our generation faces today with 1.3 billion people living in extreme poverty, lacking necessities such as food, water, sanitation, housing and access to education. We re making progress, but not fast enough. Young people have the opportunity right now to act on this injustice and be at the core of this movement. We need you to get onboard! Generate is the avenue to start your involvement and join like-minded people in making more than just small changes to end extreme poverty. If you re under 26 and out of school, you re eligible! See page 8 to find out more about who can join Generate. Generate is the ultimate program for young people run by young people. A program by the Oaktree Foundation, Generate leads in enabling passionate young people to become dedicated and effective agents of change, having empowered over 700 young people since We have a unique peer-to-peer experiential learning approach, with all of our volunteer facilitators under 26. See more information on the program structure on page 4 and state specific information on page 6. 5 CURRICULUM Running over 9 weeks, participants attend weekly two hour sessions, a start of program camp and a workshop day. The program is designed according to Oaktree s five youth engagement principles. DEVELOPMENT LITERACY Discuss issues of poverty and social change THE TOOLKIT Undertake skills training to execute a community project SELF EMPOWERMENT Be mentored to build confidence and set personal goals FOUNDATIONS OF OAKTREE Engage in Oaktree s development work and local campaigns COMMUNITY Build a network of emerging leaders around Australia The Generate Program has been designed and delivered by young people and our curriculum and program structure reflects that. The program will run from the weekend of April 6-7 to May

6 GENERATE PASSPORT & PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS We re action-focused and we provide opportunities to contribute to the movement to end extreme poverty through campaigning and events. We encourage innovation, and want to see your ideas put into action. In 2013, we re introducing the GENERATE PASSPORT. We want to push all of our participants to challenge themselves in setting big goals and achieving them, becoming confident in what their greatest assets are to affect change. GENERATE PASSPORT Create a personal growth plan; set personal and professional targets, as well as goals to achieve throughout the program. Be mentored by a facilitator, helping you realise and build on your greatest strengths. Record what you ve learnt and achieved throughout the program. It will also act as a tool for you and program facilitators to ensure that you re meeting the PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Attendance at the start of program camp (April 6-7) and workshop day Attendance at 7 out of 9 sessions Participation in the Live Below the Line campaign The Generate Program has a $50 registration fee to cover the costs of the camp, Generate sessions and the workshop day. 5

7 GENERATE IN YOUR STATE Generate Facilitators are leaders in the movement to end extreme poverty. Their role is to deliver the program curriculum in a way tailored to your interests and learning style, as well as mentor small groups of Generators. Over half have been Generators themselves, and all have experience in the youth sector, volunteering, campaigning and development work. 8 Generate is an amazing program run by incredible people that gave me the skills and confidence to truly recognise my potential to effect change. 9 I WANT TO APPLY! Step 1: Am I eligible? If you re out of school and 25 years old or younger, you re eligible! You don t need to be studying to be part of Generate, just interested in getting involved and able to commit to the program requirements (see page 5). Step 2: Apply!
